Anna’s Story

Anna’s Story

On Monday, we went evangelizng with our host pastor’s wife. The first home we went to was that of Anna. We sat with her for over an hour, hearing her story and telling her about Christ. Praise God that we had hope to offer her. You see, Anna is maybe 25, but doesn’t know her age. She was brought here from a primitive tribe that doesn’t record age by her husband many years ago. She’s as thin as a twig and lives in a room smaller than a small bedroom. She has 3 children, a 10 yr. old, 3 yr old, and 1 yr old. The baby is the skinniest baby I’ve ever seen, with legs like toothpicks and a belly like a basketball. She was heartbreaking. You see, Anna’s husband, the provider of the family, died last year, leaving Anna with nothing and no way to take care of herself and her children. She shared with us that she was several months behind in rent, a mere $7 a month, because she couldn’t find work and had to take the baby to the hospital because she was ill. But God is faithful!! Anna accepted Christ on Monday and found her new Provider. We went to check on her yesterday, and already God has provided for her. Smile Africa, a child feeding program next to her house that the 2 older children have been using, decided to accept the baby as well. That means that baby will be fed a special mixture that provides all the nutrients it needs for the day. The baby will be fully nourished. As a result, Anna was visibly happier and less worried. It was such a blessing to see her yesterday. The reason we went to see her yesterday was because we all had decided to chip in to help pay her rent before she lost her home. We were able to give her 79,000 Ugandan shillings, about $40 US. The pastor’s wife took her flour to make food. It was so incredible to be able to help someone with such visible need and such visible gratitude. Anna just smiled and repeated thank you in her language over and over again. Anna will forever be etched in my mind. Please be praying for her growth in Christ as the pastor’s wife disciples her and for her provision.
