Bold. Vulnerable. Unashamed.

Alone time is a rarity here in Mozambique. Our living quarters consist of tents crammed in a small yard and a room where everyone congregates for meals, team time, and many games of Monopoly. There are always children from the neighborhood in our yard who constantly want to be played with and locals playing keyboard on the front porch.

One day when I was desperately craving alone time, I made my way to the front of our yard with my journal and colored pencils in hand. The plan was to relax, hang out with Jesus, and draw. As I got out the colored pencils and began to slip into relaxation I was quickly interrupted. These two little girls LuLu and Celsat down next to me. Their clothes were tattered. Their nose covered in crusted snot. Their little feet completely caked with dirt. As we sat there, the faces that I once saw with no emotion were transformed into excitement and joy. Without hesitation, they boldly came up, took a few colored pencils out of the box, and held out their hands waiting for my journal to be given to them.

As insignificant as that moment may seem I learned something incredible from LuLu and Cel—boldness. They weren’t timid with their actions and they weren’t worried about judgment from others. They didn’t let the holes in their clothes or their unwashed bodies define them. I need to be like LuLu and Cel.

I need to be BOLD, VULNRABLE, and UNASHAMED in my faith.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

-Joshua 1:9

I am not defined by my past or by the judgment of others. When I feel God tugging on my heart to take action in a situation, I need to be bold and faithful. No hesitation and no worries. I am only defined by the love of our amazing God. I am made new and pure because of ourSavior, Jesus Christ. My heart has been transformed by the Holy Spirit.
