Hello friends and family!
It's so good to finally be able to write a blog post to update you all about what God is doing here in Maputo, Mozambique!
From day one, we have been incredibly blessed to work with a ministry called Africa on Fire Ministries!
A day in our life in Maputo looks like this:
6 am Bible Study. Breakfast. (PB&J on the most amazing bread) 30 minute walk to the church to do manual labor! Walk back home. Lunch. (Generally rice and salad) Team time. Free time to ourselves which can include playing with neighborhood kids, personal Jesus time, bonding with other team members, napping, showering, etc. 30 minute walk back to church at 5 for prayer and worship at 6 every night. Walk back home (sometimes we get lucky and get a ride home after prayer) Dinner. (Generally rice and beans. Sometimes fish or other meat is thrown in there) (WE'RE BLESSED) Team time (If we didn't earlier in the day) SLEEP! 🙂
We've been able to take part in a weekend long crusade that was incredible! We've seen people healed of sickness, and we've seen demons cast out of people. We've also seen walls torn down in our own lives as we've made life-long relationships with team members. We've let go of our past and we have stepped into a new level of hunger for The Lord.
Two nights ago, I was able to go celebrate a neighbors birthday! He wanted us to 'sing' for them! I now know enough piano to play through a worship set, but i'm still no pro. 😉 (Here in Africa, they have keyboards but no pedals….imagine my frustration, musicians!) Anyway, we sang through our first song, and they loved it, but when I got to the second song, Break Every Chain, The Lord told me to 'teach' it to them.
At that moment, I knew my dreams were being brought to life. As I taught them the words in English, and then sang it for them, I saw them light up! They in return, wanted to translate it into their language for us! My heart was so full!! We took turns singing in English and Portuguese and I've never felt the presence of God like I did that night.
Chains were broken. In the name of Jesus.
The way they worship is like nothing I've ever seen before. So passionate. So free. So full of joy. My heart will never be the same.
There is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain.
