Days Like These

Most days I wake up at around 5am.
Most days I wake up sweating from a night in the 100 something degree weather.
Most days we carry at least 20 liters of water for about half a mile.
Most days we pack into the back of a pickup truck so full the back almost hits the road.
Most days we “eat” lumps and lumps of ensima.

These are the days I wouldn’t trade for anything.

The days we walk to the well and I’m greeted by some kids yelling my “name”, “Harry! Harry!”
The days we go to women’s ministry with a group of ladies who speak no English but laugh like no other.
The days we pull into the orphanage and a flood of kids come to welcome us with smiles and hugs.
The days we get on the back of a bicycle and ride into town for the best cold coke ever.
The days we take showers in Lake Malawi.
The days we go for a swim as the bright red sun rises from behind the horizon.
The nights we worship under the beautiful shooting stars until late into the night.
The nights we roast peanuts and eat ourselves sick.
The nights all 14 of us cram into our hot room to watch a movie on a small laptop.

These are the days in Malawi, the days I wouldn’t ever want to miss. The times that I will look back on and smile. The days that God is showing up and lives are being changed. As we wrap up our time not only here in Malawi but also in Africa, I can say confidently that there is no place I would rather be than here at this specific time, in this specific place and with these amazing people.  As I think about these past few months I know one thing for sure, God is good. This place will be missed, these people will be dearly missed and part of my heart will always be here but God is nowhere near done with Africa. And I pray He is nowhere near done with me, that there will be more days like these to come.
