I’m going
to take you on a journey. This journey as one stop: Vic Burrows. This is a man
that I met two days ago, but has changed the course of my life in a simple 30
minutes. We are staying here in Moshi, Tanzania at a mission house, and there
is a conference happening at a hotel about 10 minutes away from us. We walk to
lunch and dinner every day. There is a mission team from New Zealand that is
staying at the hotel, and this man Vic is one of the leaders. He’s actually
from the States, and is a missionary in New Zealand right now. He’s probably
about 60 some years old, and he is just so sweet (I want him to be my uncle).
The moment he came up and started to talk to our team, I felt just a connection
with him. It was the Holy Spirit. Little did I know, we had been divinely appointed
to converse together. You see, satan is a jerk (notice how I didn’t capitalize
his stupid name. The dummy doesn’t deserve it. Jon Acuff reference, anyone?).
He’s been lying to me for some time now that I will forget what it’s like to
hear His voice. Forget what it’s like to have a conversation with Him, to hear
the Holy Spirit guide me, to prophesy over someone. That God gives me visions,
messages, words. That God tells me who I am. That God is the source of my life.
And guess what, I was believing the dude. But today, God put Vic and I together
again. I had been asking God for help, I knew these lies weren’t true, but I
felt trapped and bound to them. So last night God spoke to Vic and told him to
tell me this today:
“God is really
pleased with you. He knows you are really seeking him out and searching for
Him, and are on fire for Him. He’s happy with where you are right now.”
And then he
went on to tell me that he believes God has great plans for my life. Plans that
involve full-time ministry work, like missions work. He spoke truth over me
about who I am and what I’m like. He said, “you’re a great listener. People
just are captivated by the way you listen. People I’m sure talk to you about
the most boring things, but you just listen intently. That’s a really rare
gift; a gift from God. I really believe your husband is going to be blown away
by you. Captivated by you. I can really see and hear Jesus Christ in you; man,
you are just on fire for him, and that’s so encouraging to see.”
God’s been
teaching me a lot about who He is. The God that I’ve been growing with here in
Africa is the same God that is coming home with me, and is home right now. So,
I declare right now that I hear the voice of God. No matter where I am, who I
am with, God speaks to me.
The world
needs more people like Vic. People who aren’t afraid to speak life and
encouragement over people they don’t even know.
God’s been
teaching me a lot about who I am. I want to share something with ya’ll (sorry)
that God shared with me, and hopefully it will encourage you that God tells you
who you are too. God speaks to you too. You identity is found in Christ too.
Two days
ago the girls on the team took some time and just sat in an empty room in front
of a mirror and just let God speak to us. You don’t even have to read what I’m
about to type. But if you had asked me 2 months ago if God spoke to me, I’m not
sure how I would have answered. But here is proof that God knows me. He knows
my deepest fears. He knows exactly who I am. And the same goes for you. Ask God
to tell you who you are. He wants to tell you. Here’s what he told me:
“I see
beauty. The “flaws” that you see are lies from satan. I love it when you make
funny faces in the mirror because it shows that you know your wealth and have
overstepped any concept of constantly trying to please others. Instead, you
bring joy to other people. And because of that, your beauty is magnified so
much more. Beauty is much deeper than appearance. Megan, you have deep, deep
joy. You use that joy to encourage people in your life. Coming home will be a
marvelous reunion, and I will be there. Everything about you is gentle and
light. You have found true beauty. You seek and search for me, and that’s
beautiful. I have watched you grow up; I have protected you, provided for you,
and let you go off on your own because in the end you always drew closer to me.
I love that you delight in food. I see beauty in you up close and far away. The
things that make you “beautiful” in this world are not what make you beautiful
to me. To me, it’s your passion. I will permanently tattoo these things on your
heart, so that you never forget them. You are loved, you are love, and you give
off love. I have made you unique already. Your beauty is found in your spirit.
You carry joy on your shoulders and love in your hands. Look back to what Reese
prophesied over you before she had even met you: “you are hospitality. People experience
being home in Christ. You’re like a window that allows people on earth to fall
into a life lived intimately with the Father.” It’s true.” He told me some
others things as well, but those are ones that I feel like God wants me to
share with you guys.
God defines
each of us. Do you listen to God? Because He’s speaking. Oh, He’s speaking.
Listen. Ask God to show you new things, new depths. If you don’t understand
things, like prophesy or speaking in tongues for example, ask God to show you.
He loves it when we seek Him out. He loves it when we converse with Him. So
often people just talk at God, pray at God. How much more powerful is it when
we hear Him talk back? When we ask Him how to pray. When we pray, worship, and
live in the spirit. The spirit that is the bridge straight into God’s own
heart. God is up close and personal.
