Jesus is present

Jesus is present. We CAN see Jesus. We can see Him in the lost, we can see Him in the found, we can see Him in the joyful, we can see Him in the darkness, and we can see Him in ALL His people.

This is what I’ve learned most on this trip. I’ve seen Jesus all over Kenya and Uganda thus far. I’ve seen Him in the African people and in my Mzungo family.

We arrived in Setiman, Kenya on the 6th of June. I was setting up my tent/ watching in amazement as my teammates pretty much set up my tent. Paul, a man from our host family comes and helps me set it up. He didn’t know me, he didn’t know my tent, but he was Jesus to me that night. A little while later in the trip, I was coming back from “the rocks” with Evelyn, the Sunday School teacher. She took my Bible and my water and carried it for me all the way home. She was Jesus to me. In that same day, Anna, the mom in the host family, and Evelyn washed my feet. There are two big things in this situation. The first is that my feet were absolutely disgusting at this point from not showering, so this was such a blessing. The second thing is that they were literally doing what Jesus did to His disciples before He was crucified.

Then came Uganda. Wonderful Mama Frita wanted to do all of our stinky laundry for us (even underwear). She was Jesus to us. The children in school who have absolutely nothing at home, tried to give me all the food they get at school. They were Jesus to me.

Last but certainly not least, are my teammates. I have never seen so many examples of Jesus in my entire life. In Kenya I got pretty sick and Matt was there immediately to see if I was ok, if he could get me anything, and that I should wake him up if it happened again. He was Jesus to me. When we were leaving Kenya, we were rationing out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on the bus and Jace was my seat partner. He offered up his sandwich for me. In such a selfless act, he was Jesus to me. Then when we got to Uganda I was feeling down for a couple days, so Katie and Dani made a scavenger hunt for me including some Bible verses that were just what I needed. At the end there were cliff bars and a sweet note. They were Jesus to me.

I don’t know where id be without Africa. I don’t know where I'd be without these people. I do know that this trip has been the best way I could ever ask to spend my summer. I am blessed for those that cook my food (and not to mention eat after us). I am blessed for the prayers I’ve gotten, for the smiles I’ve received, and for every person and thing that has been Jesus to me.
