Less is More

Hello all! To those who don't know me, my name is Roo and I just have to say that i love whoever it is you are reading this blog for! God has so faithfully answered prayers by blessing us with an amazing team and leaders.

And that's just the beginning.

I can't even begin to describe the countless blessings that have been poured out on us. For the past month we have been without any electricity, running water, real buildings, beds, toilets, showers and contact with anything outside of our new home: the Kenyan bush. Lacking so much, it has never been clearer that less is more. And with so little, we definitely experienced 'more' in abundance.

Jesus blessed us with provisions. Drinking water, tents, clothes, chacos, food (mama Agnes was so good to us, she made such delicious food!)

He blessed us with his creation. Stunning views, beautiful weather, incredible sky (the clearest stargazing, sunsets and rises unlike any others), fresh air, birds of all types, waking up to elephants almost every morning.

He blessed us with health and protection. no serious sickness, no picky picky/matatu crashes, no elephant stampedes.

But the greatest of his blessings was love. I have never experienced community more loving than the Maasai tribe. The hospitality shown was beyond what I could have ever imagined, every home welcoming us, being offered chai constantly (we probably averaged three cups a day, not including refills), gifts of beaded jewelry from people we didn't even know. And not to mention our fabulous hosts. Love was present as children climbed all over us. Love was present as we mourned together over the death of our Mama's sister. Love was present in the joy while dancing and singing praise by the campfire at night. Love was present in the generosity and care between our team. Love was present when our Maasai dads "baptized" their mzungu (white girl) daughters into the tribe by giving us all names (mine is 'Nariku' meaning guide). But most of all, God blessed us with his overflowing love, his presence so real and his spirit moving.

And that was just the beginning.
