simplicity.

Well, I could spend hours telling you all about the dirt, goats and vivid colors of living with the Maasai people, but I'll skip straight to the substantial stuff 😉 The Kenyan Bush (Tiamamut village, to be exact) let me see the things I wouldn't admit to myself…the ways I told God to pipe down and let me live my life. Writing it makes me feel so immature and foolish, which I most certainly was, but during the living it was not so clear.
Out here, God is everything. He always was, I just didn't notice so much. That doesn't mean that every moment we are in dire circumstances and fervently praying over things. It just means that life is simpler and less distracted.
There are sunrises to remind me of His eternal grace,

A beating sun to remind me that life is hard, but He is still good,

A delicious lunch (shout out to Mama Agnes!) to remind me of the opportunity for pleasure He gives us, even in the simple things, like a piece of pineapple,

Warm afternoons with a cool breeze (and sometimes more than a breeze) to study His Word and wait quietly,

And freezing nights replete with a bonfire and the most amazing stars I've ever seen
Just so I won't forget that He is more magnificent than it all.

God and His love is simple enough for children to understand, so why complicate it? When He says He loves me, it's in the simplest way; He cherishes me, He wants my good (despite my selfish or natural desires, and even at the cost of His own comfort and ease), He delights in me and loves when I delight in Him. Simple. Trust Him. Devote life to Him. He's reliable. Not easy, but simple.

It's all very simple.

P.S. If you aren't finding it all that simple, you're not at all alone. We will all fail, but His grace is eternally sufficient. The grace is always enough. Keep trusting.
