I had no idea what to expect from training camp for The Passport. Visions of boring name-games and lame team-building exercises came to mind. I came with low expectations and a “let’s-just-get-to-Africa” mentality. Although I am still an anxious mindset to get to Africa, I have been completely blown away by the personal and spiritual growth I have experienced in three days here. God has been opening my heart and my mind from the moment I got here and I can’t wait to see how He continues to stretch and mold me in Africa. Here are a couple of things I have learned during my short stay here in Toccoa Falls, GA:
– Strangers can feel like friends and even family in less than a day when you know that God has brought you all together for His purpose.
– God works in spite of ourselves, which takes a lot of pressure off of being a “perfect Christian”
– Evangelism is about obedience to God, not the eloquence of how we present it.
– You can sleep comfortably outside with 15 other people under a tent made out of tarps on top of red ant hills.
– Surrendering to God is a process, not a one-time deal.
– The only thing required to hear God’s voice is just to silence your life and listen.
– I have also learned five words in Swahili and that 15-minute naps are God’s greatest blessing at camp.
24 more hours until we are en route to Uganda and I literally could not be more excited to see what God has planned for this amazing team… Kwaheri!
