"We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine"
-Kari Jobe
Scientifically, there is no such thing as darkness, did you know that? When you walk into a room with no windows, you're not in darkness, simply a room with no light.
That's sometimes what it feels like when we go into ministry. We enter places that aren't really spiritually dark, there just isn't anyone to bring lightness to it. Last Friday and Saturday, we visited a village a few miles from our home, buried by banana trees and thick jungle vegetation. We went to assist a church to rally people for their crusade. We walked door to door in the morning, inviting people to join us in the wonderful celebration that was to happen in the afternoon. We were accompanied by several of the village members, but the most inspiring person I met was a girl named Lightness.
She was charismatic, passionate, and genuine. Lightness instantly greeted us when we arrived and welcomed us with her warm spirit, her name is truly prophetic. Later at the crusade, we spent most of our time praising God with worship and dance. Lightness and several others had us on our feet nearly the whole time, praising with our bodies and dancing until we nearly fell down with exhaustion. She brouht so much joy to our team, and all those around her. Lightness also led a youth worship, and was the most emphatic woman I had ever seen, it was so beautiful watching her.
I hope to go back and visit the village again, and bring God's word and the Good News to the far corners of the jungles. And when I go, I'll be sure to bring my friend, Lightness.
