What is there even to say about all of this? My God is incredible. I love worshiping Him. Last week my team was in the village of Morekebu. The ministry was great and the people were amazing but it was a really hard week. Every day that we were there until the last day someone had to stay home sick. It was really difficult not having the whole team together to worship and grow together. I didn’t realize how significantly that had impacted me until we spent 15 hours traveling from Tororo, Uganda to Nanyuki, Kenya. Our first day in Kenya was really rough for me and I couldn’t find any way to explain it or to stop wanting to cry until after dinner we were having some team time around the fire and couldn’t seem to connect as we talked. Angie stopped and prayed and we ended up going into worship for over an hour. I cannot describe how good it felt to worship. As we sang I looked up and there were 10 more people standing around us than had started. The other team had joined us. It was so powerful to see in them how every single person on this trip longs for worship, longs to come before God and offer Him all that we can give.
The longer we are here the more clear it is becoming that my life is defined by worship. At training camp God showed me that when we worship, we are before the throne of God and we get a glimpse of what heaven is like. On Sunday the 19th Kaylie and I were at a church called Aderema to preach and whatnot. Pastor Joseph said at least 5 times to us how they don’t have any machines, like the piano so they use their hands to clap and dance. But he really wants to be able to have instruments. The different pastors we’ve met always ask about how we worship at home and it strikes me that they think they can worship better with instruments. But When we were at that church the worship was so genuine and powerful. No one in Africa has a pretty singing voice (at least not that I’ve met) every song has the same melody and they all repeat the same things over and over and over again. I love it. I can’t get enough of it. I can’t wait to be before the throne of God in heaven surrounded by people who are dancing, clapping, yelling, kneeling, praying, crying, and singing as they worship God. God is showing me how every worship style there is pleases Him. And how vital worship is to our lives. And God is so completely worthy of the worship we give Him. So let’s worship Him with abandon.
I can’t wait to worship in the middle of the bush below the stars and around a fire.
