uganda uganda uganda uganda… so here I am in kenya getting ready for our 25 mile hike into the bush to hang out with giraffes and zebras and the INTENSE maasai tribe. And much has happened, much to come. PRAISE GOD, wow he is faithful and fun 🙂 i love Jesus!
our team spent one week in the town of Tororo and after leaving the town we ventured off into a distance remote village, Morkebu. I was expecting for the ugandans to treat us the same as those in town, but of course my expectations were very very very wrong (kinda a recurring theme throughout this trip). You see these people have NEVER seen an American before NEVER, and have definitely never seen my white, pale, casper like skin.
Children would giggle and scream with their friends if I merely touched their hand, women twice my age would bow down at my feet as they would greet me, men would plead for me to pray over their family, crops, and huts. How do you have humility in an environment when people literally think you are this famous celebrity, super hero, apostle?
The first day in this town was a Sunday so our family of 8 split up into pairs and hiked miles to distant churches to preach about our LORD. After the five hour church service, I asked the congregation of sixty if anyone needed prayer or healing or encouragement. THEY FLOCKED and bowed before Brittany and me. They were convinced and confident that our special, holy, magical, white person prayers would go straight to God’s ears.
The pride began to seep in- I felt so gross. I felt like I was beginning to accept their misinterpretation of my authority. So I turned to the first sick lady kneeling my feet- I asked her if she had faith that God could heal her.
She quietly said yes.
So I told her about the healing that comes with faith in Jesus:
“Jesus turned and saw her. ‘take heart, daughter.” he said, ‘your FAITH has healed you.” and the woman was healed at that moment.” Matt 9:22
After reiterating what the Bible says about her faith, I humbly knelt down besides her and asked HER to pray for healing. Shoot, I love the Holy Spirit.
It was a powerful moment with my dear and equal sister.
After praying with her I then gathered up all the children (and this part just makes me smile ear to ear thinking about it). I told the group of about thirty kids about what Jesus said about THEIR faith!
“Jesus called a little child to him and placed the child among them. And he said; “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. AND WHOEVER WELCOMES ONE SUCH CHILD IN MY NAME WELCOMES ME.” Matt 18:2-5
I told them how IMPORTANT they are in God’s kingdom, how child like faith is the example that we look up too! So I asked for them to all lay a hand on this sick man and ask Jesus for healing and strength. The age of these children ranged from 3 to 14 and how PRECIOUS yet powerful their prayers were to me. The prayers of the innocent are a beautiful song to hear.
I was humbled that Sunday to learn from a sick woman’s faith and the presence of Jesus amidst praying children.
Thank you for praying for my team. Continually pray for his will above all else. For his power and presence to be strong
and pray that these Kenyans will hear HEAVEN ROAR and feel the fire fall as we shake this kenyan ground with the sound of REVIAL!
He is a good God indeed.
