I Have Fleas.

“Leave inexperience behind, and you will live; pursue the way of understanding.” Proverbs 9:6   There is a kid from the neighborhood that comes here and plays in the yard. He is maybe 3 or 4. All of his top teeth are rotten and almost gone.    I woke up angry and annoyed, all because I have fleas.   There is a young girl, who is maybe 9, who carries her younger sibling, who is maybe 3, on her back to church because her mother left them and her father is disabled.   What am I dealing with? Fleas.   Mozambique is a home to millions of orphans. We have...

My Sister has Risen

The houses here in Maputo are colorless; they hold much sickness and much darkness within the walls. They are made of stone and cement and are topped with tin roofs. We walk by these houses every day on our way to church. We see big eyes peeking around the thorn bush fences and cardboard doors. There is much despair in Mozambique.   But there is also hope. There are pockets of light in the crevices of this city.   Our ministry days include going from house to house and praying over the hurting people. Our team has seen healing. We have seen grace; Jesus is moving. Three days ago, we came...

Beyond the Rubble

A sea of people before me. Their arms stretched high over-head, letting the presence of God crash on them like a mighty hurricane. This is it. This is my new church, Africa on Fire Ministries. It is not defined by the sand floor under our feet, nor the absence of a ceiling or wall in front of us. It is a powerful fortress that cannot be contained.  I stand in complete darkness but see a beaming light shining out of every single person in the congregation. Electricity isn’t the power source here. “So then, let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of...

Mozambique

Our Africa Expeditions team has arrived in Mozambique!  They are deep in the Africa outback and quite a distance from an Interent connection, so they are working on getting an Internet "stick" that will allow them to connect on the leaders computers.  However, things take a little bit longer in Africa than we are used to in the States.  Until then, the team wanted to let you know that they are doing well and fully engaging in the culture around them.  We'll keep you posted until they are able to communicate with you personally.  ...

Finding my Identity

Identity in Christ is a term I have heard over the years, but never fully understood what it meant. I always thought that my identity was in Christ because I was a Christian. However, I was so wrong. I realize now that through my whole life I found my identity in sports, grades and other people. I allowed how well I did in sports to dictate how good I felt about myself. I allowed the grade in school determine my worth. And I allowed the opinions of others control my confidence. I always acted like these things and people did not control me, but they did. That is why after high school...

Set a fire.

"Set a fire down in my soul, that I can’t contain that I can’t control, I want more of you God, I want more of you God" Today during worship these lyrics touched my heart in a way that I have never felt before. I have been called to do this. I'm learning that its not about me anymore, it's about God and the purpose that he has for me. I am so ready. I can't wait to see all the plans he has. I want more. I want to feel God in a way that I have never felt before.
