The people who survive the sword; will find favor in the desert.

Love everyone, for I have loved you first.   The Lord speaks to me in strange ways. As we were sitting in our minibus in the pouring rain on our way to visit someone’s home, I decided to take a personal time to worship with my phone. Not my most preferable method of worship, but hey, worship is worship. As I look out the window and see the faces of people, I realize something.   They aren’t just people.   They are souls. They are the image of God. They have emotions, they feel happiness, and pain, just like I do.   Often times...

rain.

It’s kind of ironic, being here in Malawi, in Africa, during the rainy season. I haven’t been too open with anyone about this, besides my team, but spiritually, I am in a desert right now. It’s lasting longer than I’d like it too (well, I mean, no one wants to spend any time in a desert..) but it has been a while, and I don’t know when it will end. Most days it feels like I am going through the motions, praying, reading my Bible, doing all the “right” things, but feeling so far away from Jesus and not having the relationship I want with Him. I know...

So much love, even in the rain :)

As I am typing this is the living room of the coziest homes in Zomba, it is pouring down rain; so loud we have to practically yell to hear each other. This weather is an everyday thing in Malawi. They definitely weren’t kidding when they said it’s the rainy season… Despite all the downpours, my team has still managed to squeeze in some ministry this week. We are still doing door-to-door ministry, so it’s been kinda hard getting used to that. Needless to say it’s starting to grow on me and I am truly enjoying it:). As Pastor Gama (our host) leads us from home...

Breaking through Language Barriers

The night of February 2nd, at midnight, I gained full freedom.    I had been letting events in my past get to me and bring me down, and as a result I was not allowing God to fully enter my heart.  At about 11:30 on February 1st I woke up screaming in my sleep, holding my leader Los (Laurens) hand, panting and crying uncontrollably.  It was in that moment I realized that I could not live like this anymore.  My past, joined by the pasts of some of the people closest to me had been haunting me for to long.    Once I had settled Lo ran and grabbed the...

Chimwemwe

Ah, Zomba, how I have missed you!! I have the crazy, amazing, wonderful and unexpected pleasure of writing this blog at a dinner table I sat at just 2 years and two months ago, with my World Race team, falling in love with this country more than any other I have ever experienced.   Great is Your faithfulness, oh God!   Nelson Mandela once said, “There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.”   Obviously there are a few changes to this wonderful home and place, but the beauty of...

Less is More

I love the simplicity of this place. The scenery is composed of virtually untouched terrain which boldly testifies to the wonder of God’s creation and there are more shades of green here than I could possibly count or describe. Yesterday I had the supreme pleasure of visiting the home of one of my friends here, Eunice, a 19 year old girl who sings in the church choir that I first came to know two years ago. I am already so in love with Zomba, but was newly captivated by its overwhelming beauty as I walked with here for a good ways along the dirt roads and through fields of corn to her...
