Love that Changes Everything

Malawi is amazing! The things God is doing here is so good. There is so much in store for Senga Bay. It is so apparent that God hand picked each and every individual to bring exactly what this land needs. One of the main things is love.     It is difficult to minister to the people like you would regularly. Maybe tell them a bible story, tell them who Jesus is and how he came down and died for us, that we are here to tell them the good news and help bring them to Jesus. But because of the language barrier you can't just go down to sit and talk. The...

Authorized Messengers

This is more of a lesson than a couple of random thoughts. Sorry if it's a bit dense…. When was the last time you thought to yourself, "my words hold power"? For some, maybe its during a speech; crowds of at least semi-attentive eyes give that impression. Perhaps its when you're casting your vote for the new President. Has it occured to you when you see the sick, the sad, or the lost? The truth that you hold the power of life and death in your words. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit~Proverbs 18:21 This is a...

Days Like These

Most days I wake up at around 5am. Most days I wake up sweating from a night in the 100 something degree weather. Most days we carry at least 20 liters of water for about half a mile. Most days we pack into the back of a pickup truck so full the back almost hits the road. Most days we “eat” lumps and lumps of ensima.   These are the days I wouldn’t trade for anything.   The days we walk to the well and I’m greeted by some kids yelling my “name”, “Harry! Harry!” The days we go to women’s ministry with a group of ladies who speak...

The Butterfly

I love dreams. I am not sure if this is something that I am going to grow out of or not, but at this point I can see myself waking up each morning as an old woman still pondering what I had dreamt about the night before. I also feel as though I can learn a lot from my dreams- whether they be from my subconscious or from God. This story starts with a dream. It was pretty simple: A bluish-purple butterfly came and landed on my nose and fluttered its wings, giving me a butterfly kiss. And while this was happening, God told me in the dream that I was His butterfly. I wouldn’t say I was...

Time to start livin’

So it's our 5th week in Senga Bay, Malawi and man oh man has it been a journey.  What I'm feeling at this point in Malawi is something that I can maybe relate to something someone who has had a near-death experience might feel. Except I didn't need a near-death experience. I needed Kenya, Tanzania, and Malawi. I needed Africa. I needed Jesus.    Malawi has been earth-shattering for me. I remember back in Tanzania I prayed about a change in me. Of course I already knew I was very different after my Kenyan experience in the bush but i wanted...
