The Unseen Generations

Four months ago when I got an email saying I would be going to Malawi instead of Uganda I had no idea what to say. Mainly because I had never heard of Malawi before and all I could understand was that half the country was taken up by a huge lake. Now, today as I sit in a land I've called home for the past 5 weeks, I know more about this country then most people do. It's an unseen generation by the eyes of the unwilling.                  These generations of families have more love at the ends of their fingertips, then most of the...

Warming my Heart

When you think of children in third world countries, who do you picture? For most my life I pictured children running around dirty, skinny, with obvious signs of hunger and sickness. This past week I saw and felt something completely different. I felt my heart warming to something every mother does.                                                             Most of the older children love to play with white people, but the little...

Team Update

Hey Family and Friends, I just want to let you know that the team is doing well. The internet has not been super reliable like we first thought in Malawi, but I have been in constant communication with the team leaders by phone. The team absolutely loves where they are, and especially their ministry host. They are loving where they are. And i literally hear nothing but greatness about this expedition team. They are constantly pushing and pursing more of the heart of God. It is incredible.  I have asked the leaders to make sure they get some of the blogs up as soon as they can, and they...

Cherish the Moment

It was mid-day in the peak of the hot Malawian sun, making water run #who-knows-what-at-this-point, about halfway up the final hill of the mile-long stretch.  20 liters of water on my back (this is real heavy), thick sand shifting under my feet with every step, my crooked shoulders feeling like they have about had it.  I stop and bend over, shifting the weight to rest on my back. The sun still beating, I look straight down at my feet caked black with dirt, sweat drips off my face and down my sun-burned arms.  All alone, I smile.  I smile big, and all I can think is,...

“I’m fine, and how are you?”

There is no way to possibly count how many Malawians our team encounters in a day. Dozens, and on certain occasions, hundreds even. The language barrier offers minimal conversation, but somehow, every man woman and child knows how to greet us with a friendly hello. A typical interaction will sound something like this; “Hello! How are you?” “I’m fine, how are you?” “Fine, thank you”           Sounds pretty standard, right? In fact, it sounds a whole lot like the brief small talk and...
