seeing HIS words come alive (Part 2)

As we hugged mama and said I love you, I could start to see the desire within her eyes for more. For more of HIM. Then as we were walking away Mama asks us when we will back. Well yesterday we returned. We crossed the river, walked up the dirt path, turned the corner and there was Mama outside the house. I can’t recall a time when I have felt so in grateful that HE brough  me back to a home. As I watched Mama get up from her perch and hurry to greet me, I was overjoyed by the smile on her face. At that moment I knew I was right where HE wanted me. We all surrounded Mama and...

LOTR and Bananas

I woke up this morning to a cloudy sky. As I laid there staring up at the mosquito net covering me, I couldn't help but think that all I wanted to do was curl up on a couch and watch a movie. It was one of those days, and all I wanted was to go hide in my basement with my sisters or maybe a few friends and watch all three extended addition Lord of the Rings back to back (with occassional breaks for baking or froyo runs of course). I started thinking about back home, missing my life that I left to be here instead. I wanted to walk up to the trailheads with my puppy dog and go for a...

Fully Alive

"Don't ask what the world needs but ask what makes you come alive, because the world needs people that are fully alive."   I never thought of this before. God wants us to live life and live it to the full. And the life He breathes into us isn't meant to be contained- it is meant to be channeled out. In actually contemplating this, these are powerful words. My team leader, Elizabeth, has been challenging me with the questions of 'What makes you come alive? What keeps you up at night and wakes you up in the morning? What is your passion?' She was referring to...

Hello Goodbye

God always has a purpuse for everything we do, I know that, I'm just trying to figure out what his purpose is for the time in Tanzania. Just as we arrive here, we are getting ready to leave. That is overwhelming and exciting all at the same time. In the past week we have been here I have seen God work in a multitude of ways. He's brought fellow believers together for a crusade (for us mzungus it was just a bunch of dancing). He's brought all 14 of us to a hospital full of sick mamas and little babies and formed relationships when no one knew what the other was saying. He showed...

We Gotta Let the Light Shine

"We are the light of the world We are the city on a hill We are the light of the world We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine" -Kari Jobe      Scientifically, there is no such thing as darkness, did you know that? When you walk into a room with no windows, you're not in darkness, simply a room with no light.       That's sometimes what it feels like when we go into ministry. We enter places that aren't really spiritually dark, there just isn't anyone to bring lightness to it. Last Friday and Saturday, we visited a...

The Transition

Wow how I love Tanzania!     Ever since we crossed then border from Kenya to Tanzania I have been filled with joy. The bush was amazing and I learned so much especially about myself but something about being here in Moshi Tanzania just fills me with joy.       Maybe its the amazing home that we are staying in with beds and electricity, the beautiful landscape, the new types of ministry, our fresh fruit at every meal (tons or watermelon and bananas),the mamas that cook and do our laundry for us,...
