We are now Maasai

The past month living with the Maasai way out in the bush of Kenya was an experience I will never forget! We had such an adventure. We were blessed with getting to become part of many wonderful families. Most of which had the last name Meshami… Everywhere you went, another Meshami! We learned the ways of how the Maasai tribe lives. We got to experience a Maasai wedding and unfortunately but fortunately a funeral. The funeral, although we didn’t know the woman who it was for, was hard because it was our mama’s sister. To see mama Agnus hurt that way was awful! But...

I Just Haven’t Met You Yet

Where do I even begin? There is really no way to sum up the past month in just one blog. I could talk for hours telling stories about living with the Masai tribe in the bush of Kenya. But there is one thing that God has put on my heart that I hope will stay with me throughout my life. God has opened up my eyes to the concept of bringing honor to the people I haven’t met yet. Sounds strange, right? Yeah, I am not sure if I am able to put this thought into the right words, but I will try. I realized that it is so easy for me to go about my life (living with much more than I need) and...

I will miss you big!

It's been a flea infested, tired legs, showerless month living in the bush of Kenya. But I could not be more joyful and at home. More contagious than our fleas was the smiles and laughter shared with our new family. And more important than our tired legs were the homes that were able to hear and receive the gospel. And better than a physical shower was the cleansing and renewal of our hearts from the peace and simplicity of our life in the bush.  This month has been filled with new experiences, new foods, new forms of transportation and most importantly new relationships within our...

Ma(YOLO)

"Mayolo", a pretty common Maasi phrase from our team, meaning "I don't know". Having never been out of the country, there were a lot of things that I didn't know going into Africa. I didn't know the language, I didn't know the people, I didn't know the food, and I didn't know what God had planned for our team. But now that our time in Kenya is over, I can say that there is a lot I know. I know some Swahili and Maasi, I know that I LOVE African cooking, I know that we stayed with the sweetest family in all of Kenya,...

Grace Like Rain (picture attached!)

"And hallelujah, Grace Like Rain falls down on me And hallelujah, And all my stains are washed away They're washed away"      “Grace like rain”, it’s become almost a theme here for me in Kenya. This song and phrase has always meant a lot to me, and its significance has become even more apparent in the past 4 weeks. The analogy of rain is so relevant to our time in the bush of Kenya. Every night we would pray for the rain to come and refresh the earth. The Maasi people are shepherds, and their flocks need good grazing. In the same way that...

Shout out from the Expedition Girls!

After one heck of an AMAZING, stretching, challenging, and life changing month in the interior Maasi bush of Kenya ….   The Africa Expediton Girls are back in civilization! Since leaving Georgia a month ago: our beds have been the ground. our rooms has been tents. our roof has been the most beautiful stars you've ever seen, our alarm clocks have been goats and sheep at 4:30AM. our character builder (among many) — being a human buffet for fleas. our best friends have been Maasi children and families. and Jesus has showed up to exceed our prayers, hopes, and...
