Electricity

First of all, today is Jesse’s 19th birthday! Saturdays are free days for the team, so some of us girls got all dressed up (put on a clean shirt and jeans…) and went to town to get lunch! We bought chocolate and went back to watch Sydney White on Kristen’s laptop, and it was such a good time. Being in fellowship with such amazing women is one of my favorite parts of being in Africa.  Jesse in the middle! So much love for that girl 🙂     This is where we live! (house left, kitchen right)    It is in this house that I was...

God is SO Good.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JESSE.” -Love, Africa That’s pretty much EXACTLY what I woke up to this morning.        Knowing I would be celebrating my birthday in Africa, I was PRETTY excited. Of course, while in the states I had no idea what that would exactly look like but an African birthday party sounded pretty fantastic to me – whatever it would entail. So being the CRAZY bunch that we are, 9 of us decided to stay up until 12:01 until June 30th African style. So I sat on our freezer (We have a freezer?! I know. Complete blessing.) in the...

honesty blog

Let’s just be honest here for a moment, people.   I love Africa.  If I didn’t, you would know. But let’s be honest…. Africa smells a lot, in a lot of places.  For example, the squatty.  I’m sorry, but no matter where you go a squatty is a squatty, and they’ve got a little bit of stink.   Another fun fact about Africa: Apparently, the most popular way to dispose of trash is to burn it.  And let’s just say there’s a reason that Febreze or Glade haven’t bottled that scent yet.  Also, there’s a lot...

Kenya Hear Me?

I know the Lord hears us when we call on HIS great name. I know this. However this season of my life has taught me how to rely on that understanding. ” Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present youre request to God.” This Ive known since I was a child and in the past I have lifted my burdens up to the Lord. But it doesn’t stop there…Philippians 4 continues to say“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Prayer gives us a...

No Words

We visited our first hospital yesterday to do ministry.  I had heard stories of hospitals in third world countries before, but I still really had no idea what to expect.  As far as the nasty, grungy cesspools of hospitals that you hear of, I would say this one was relatively nice.  Nonetheless, people were broken, in pain, and just had great need of care.   If there is one word to describe, it would be humbling.  There is absolutely nothing I can offer these people.  Nothing.      I was there only to bring Christ in some form or...

“And the Thunder Rolls”

“And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper.” Psalm 1:3   Fact : It rains in Kenya every day. We are known as the bringers of the rain.   My favorite part of the day is quiet time. I love just pluggin’ my headphones in, jammin’ out to some good tunes, and searching deep in the Word of God. I really love it on the roof of the little complex next to our house…and its the best when you can smell...
