First times the charm

Uganda has been great! It wasn’t at all what I was expecting, with us being right out side of the capitol city of Kampala.  I have had a lot of firsts on this trip already. I went rafting, bungee jumping, rode on the back of a motorcycle multiple times, put out a car fire with buckets of water, emptied my bowels into what is essentially an open septic tank, threw up multiple times outside of a chicken house, preached the gospel to people worshiping a tree, preached the gospel to Muslims, became a third grade teacher, and bathed with a bucket, just to name a few. Most importantly...

Goodbye Uganda

My last week in Uganda has been a good one. The pastors little girls, Debrah and Rachel, have been so fun and even the little toddler, Gloria, has been coming out of her shell to get to know me. It is such a blessing to be with such an amazing family, and it is definitely bittersweet leaving this place. As I leave Uganda, I leave relationships that I have made with families, brothers, sisters, and little ones. I have given my email out countless times, but it is still tough to leave these people.  Yesterday the men of our group took a walk up this mountain where we had to climb to get...

Cooking with Abigal

Uganda, initially a crazy country and very unexpected. When I think of Africa, I think of broken and lost people, without food, money and shelter. Now at the end of our stay, I can see how real these people are. Looking at them, they aren’t lost, this is their life and they don’t know any different. My world, and my teams world have really been rocked while being here.   Our host family have been incredible and gracious servants of the lord. Who in America would take in 16 college students into a tiny African house without having running water or even a stove to cook our 3...

Don’t Free This Slave

Africa.  You have not captivated my heart.  You have not rocked my world.  You have not convicted the American me. Call me a heartless missionary.  I am not the one to say you can’t judge me.  I cannot even judge myself.  As I have walked your red roads and seen your beautiful inhabitants, my mind has been, in a way, captive. Rewind a several months.  I sit on a tractor, guiding its course across a field turning rye-covered ground into furrows of dark earth.  The engine’s steady growl is the only voice that speaks to me.  It is...

Peace!

So long Uganda! It’s been swell but a challenge as well!   Just some pics:      A little bungee jumping.            Africa.    Modeling.    Little Children. And Eric. And Kaleb creeping.    Lake Victoria. One of those boats is sinking.   Psalm 16:11 “In Your presence there is fullness of joy”   Here comes Kenya! My prayer is that His peace fills us to the brim, despite the challenges that lie ahead.

Moving on already?

Wow we are almost done here in Uganda!! Time is flying by so fast. Two weeks doesn’t even seem like two days here. But God has done wonderful things in this short time. He has given us the most wonderful people to work with, the best host family you could ask for, and crazy insight into who we are and what we are all here for.            I don’t want to leave Uganda already but I know God has plans for us in Kenya, and Tanzania also. But in this short time of being here in Uganda i have made new friends....
