Peanut Butter and Jelly Chronicles

I am now trained to think that peanut butter and jelly is synonymous with African travel. A PB and J day will probably also include a 4 hour nap in a bus station waiting for your 7:30 bus to finally leave at noon. Or it entails trying to explain to the kind African man sitting beside you (that doesn’t speak English) that you want to switch seats so that you can sit with someone in your group who is more likely to have showered in that day and won’t mind if you fall asleep on them. Now don’t get me wrong, a PB and J day is a promise that you will meet an African car...

We’re tenting in a pond?

The rains came down and the floods came up The rains came down and the floods came up The rains came down and the floods came up and our tents went floating away!          …So they didn’t really go floating away, but if they were empty they definitely would have floated away. Here in Tanzania, specifically Arusha, they aren’t in a drought like Kenya. April is rainy season and it doesn’t just rain..it downpours and thunderstorms for hours on end. In my mind that’s super awesome! I love thunderstorms, but...

falling in love with a child.

Children are beautiful. They are innocent. Children possess purity, the ability to love and be loved. Children are individuals, yet are unified in some unexplainable way. Children have light in their eyes, joy in their hearts and growth in their bones. They want knowledge, they want strength, they want guidance. They have faith. I have fallen in love with a child. Camp Moses and Camp Joshua are two places filled with love and at the same time, hurt and yet you can’t ignore the overwhelming joy. The children there have a story and now my story will be forever linked with theirs. The...

Back on the Field

Even though I was back home in the States for just over a month it still had the feel of being on the mission field still. I was traveling around to family and friends telling stories over the past year of my life and hearing what was going on with theirs. So when I arrived in Uganda it was an easy transition. (We were very blessed to be able to raft the Nile River on our first day in the country before we set off for ministry.) After so crazy African travel we made it to Tororo were we would spend the next month. We were welcome by Pastor Philemon and his wonderful church staff and...

I couldn’t think of a catchy title..

March 30 We arrived in Arusha, Tanzania on Wednesday March 28. We left our hostel at 545am expecting to depart from the bus station at 730. Of course being on time would make too much sense so we left around 1130- 4 hours later than expected. Ten minutes after we left the bus station we stopped at the gas station, for who knows what, and waited around for another 45 minutes. It was suppose to be a 6-7 hour ordeal and if I calculated correctly it was, all together, 12.5 hours. Welcome to African travel. We call situations like this Hurry and Wait. Other than the long day...

Kenya Believe it

“Set a fire down in my soul that i cant contain that I can’t control. I want more of you God I want more of you.” Over the last month and a half me and my team have spent our time with the amazing Maasai tribe in Ngabolo Kenya. Kenya has literally stolen my heart from day one. With it’s AMAZING landscape and the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets that our Father has ever painted!! I knew from the very start that He had me there in Kenya for a unique purpose. Our ministry consisted of walking, some more walking, and even more walking. Throughout the month we did door...
