African Fever

It has been a crazy but amazing ride so far. God has really been working in and through me and my team. We arrived in Uganda on the 17th. When we first got there we ended up just sleeping in our tents at local hostel. Then the next day we got to go white water rafting in the Nile River. That was such an amazing experience. Seeing the beautiful landscape of Africa. was really crazy was just as we would go down the river just seeing the people on the side of the river bank, seeing the kids and and their homes. Its crazy to think that there are people who really do live their lives like...

Assistance!

Assistance! Posted in General Posts by Megan Lee Esposito on 1/29/2012 My world has been rocked. I never thought Uganda, Africa would break me like it has. To be honest, I felt pretty prepared to spend four months in a foreign country living with complete strangers and teaching the gospel. That sounded like a once in a life time opportunity when I was in the comfort of my home, sleeping in my bed, eating familiar food, and not worrying about how secure my mosquito net was. I was so pumped to break out of my comfort zone and try new things. Oh, how quickly I learned. What I wanted most out...

Feel at Home?

This is the greeting you would expect anywhere you go. For example when we met our ministry contact I fully expected to hear this familiar phrase. Our ministry contact this month is Deliverance Church in Tororo, Uganda. This woman named Esther, the wife of one of the church elders, was greeting us when we first arrived. But instead of saying feel at home she said something that has continuously changed my prayers so far this trip. She said “feel at Jesus because he is the only thing we ever need”. When I put this into context when thinking about the people of Uganda, home for...

Love Them Like Jesus

Love has been a big part of my preparations for this trip. It continues to be a big part of this trip, even as it’s just the beginning. We are called to love. I was listening to a song called Love Them Like Jesus and the chorus goes like this:             Just love them like Jesus             Carry them to Him             His yoke is easy             His burden is light       ...

You must be in de-NILE

You see what I did there? It’s funny because I am in Africa. Well once we finally made it here things really started happening. I wasn’t sure what to expect or if I should be expecting anything at all. After training camp I learned that this experience would be so much greater if I let my selfish wants and expectations go out the window and let God do work. And so far this has been the most amazing journey. I have discovered that I LOVE Africa time and I LOVE not knowing. It adds to the thrill of it all. Let me just inform you about Africa time. When someone says that they will...

The five C’s of Tororo

Cockroaches, Chicken, Children, Cola, and Church Well my friends,  this is Africa, TIA… Cockroaches- lots of them. Chickens- we’ve slaughtered them, not killed them. Yes, there’s a difference. Children- too cute. Cola- coke keeps me chuggin. Church-  we’re working with the Deliverance Church of Tororo in Uganda. Today, I gave the sermon.  It proved to be challenging communicating with a translator. But hey, all praise and glory to God!! Ministry thus far has been predominantly door to door evangelizing, and prayer.  It seems to by the best way to...
