To be honest, I felt pretty prepared to spend four months in a foreign country living with complete strangers and teaching the gospel. This is the greeting you would expect anywhere you go. For example when we met our ministry contact I fully expected to hear this familiar phrase. Our ministry contact this month is Deliverance Church in Tororo, Uganda. This woman named Esther, the wife of one of the church elders, was greeting us when we first arrived. But instead of saying feel at home she said something that has continuously changed my prayers so far this trip. She said “feel at Jesus because he is the only thing we ever need”. You see what I did there? It’s funny because I am in Africa. Well once we finally made it here things really started happening. I wasn’t sure what to expect or if I should be expecting anything at all. After training camp I learned that this experience would be so much greater if I let my selfish wants and expectations go out the window and let God do work.
