Letting go so that I can grow

Africa, you are the reason that my heart beats. Some of you have so little but you’re willing to give so much. You’ve turned my world upside down, somehow you got past my walls and through all my onion-y layers and got to the heart of me.        I’m only here because it’s God’s will so I’m letting go of all that I know, feel, think, fear and allowing Him to completely change me. I may not be completely where I want to be but I know that God has me right where I need to be. 😉 I know...

Playing with the Orphans!

Utter awesomeness.   Finney, Pastor Philemon of Deliverance Church’s son, decides to take Mallarie, Jessica and I on a small short adventure to the well down the street from our house on the last day of our stay in Uganda. Everyone was just sitting around the house waiting until the farewell “fellowship” at 4 so the three of us jumped at the opportunity to get out and do something. We walked down the half paved roads, past tons of random livestock (cows we touched, goats and chickens we just chased, except for the baby goat we held AWESOME) and lots of little...

T.I.A.

This Is Africa.   Thats our teams most commonly used phrase haha… We can’t begin to count how many times we say it in a day. Lets just say… A LOT.   When we first landed in Africa, to be completely blunt and honest all I could think about was the smell in the air. Literally it is a constant smell of B.O. in Africa. But the good thing is it only took a day to get used to the smell. That smell is completely normal to me now!    The first night we arrived we drove to Jinja, Uganda which was a town about an hour from the airport. It was dark outside, and...

David’s Story

During the first couple days of training camp there was a lot of bonding, adventure, training, and craziness.  The experience I want to share happened the first night we were in Atlanta.  Our team was given a task to go out in the streets of Atlanta and seek the Lord’s guidance and do whatever we felt like he was calling us to do.  Why not?  Sounds like fun right?   After a couple hours of what seemed like wandering around the streets aimlessly we stopped to give a homeless man, Michael, who was laying out on a blanket a dollar we had.  His story is told...

Climbing a Mountain

Hey everybody!!!!   Sorry it’s been so long! I’m missing all of you! I have so many stories to share but I’ll just wait until I’m with you to spill most. This experience was a while ago but it is so revealing of the way God is working in my heart right now. I just want to share it with you.   So picture yourself, first week in Uganda, doing ministry daily, door to door evangelism in the morning and hospital visits at night. We jumped right into to movement. It felt like we had lived in Uganda our whole lives, but yet everything was new and beautiful....

I need Africa more than Africa needs me.

We are in Tororo! <3 This city is precious. The people are welcoming, humble, and love unconditionally. Being here for only a few days has already changed my perspective on basically everything. No matter how many words I use to describe this place, it would never be accurate. We have been partnering with Deliverance Church to do door to door evangelism and other types of ministry. This church has partnered with Compassion International, which is AWESOME! As soon as I found this out, I asked about my little sponsored boy, Nehemiah. He isn’t at this Compassion base, however. He is...
