So, we made it to Bungoma, KENYA!
The wonderful church that we are working with has given us an entire house so that we can all live together as a team. These people are the definition of givers. People have donated food and skills to get us through to day and we realize how incredibly blessed we are! GUYS…WE HAVE A TOILET AND A SHOWER. Not just any shower…a HOT STEAM SHOWER. I haven’t gotten the chance to use it yet, but I hear it’s the best thing ever, so praise God for that!
Anyway, there are a bunch of different ministry options we have here, including evangelism, hospital, school, and street children. I can truthfully say that door to door evangelism was the very last ministry on my “desirable ministries” list, and of course, we spent our first two days doing just that. But I have news for you people: DOOR TO DOOR DOESN’T SUCK!
Door to door is focussed on reaching adults,
but these smiling faces follow us everywhere we go!
Where did this change of heart come from? I have always been a huge fan of discipleship and building relationships. I felt like quickly dropping bye people’s huts and asking them to accept Christ was the worst way to show people Jesus, because He is all about relationship. So I was definitely not excited to try that approach.
Thankfully, my experiences with door to door here in Kenya have been all about the heart of Jesus. Since training camp, the Lord has been telling me that He is passionately pursuing the people of Africa, and this ministry has made that promise come to life! I was blessed to work with Sophia, and two Kenyan translators for the past few days. We became the body of Christ, each playing a different role at each house and all working for the same purpose.
People were desperate to welcome us into their homes and begging us to hear the message that God had for them. God had been preparing their hearts long before we got there, and it showed in their willingness to listen. They opened up and shared their stories with us, and we were able to relate with them EVERY SINGLE TIME. God put us in situations that we had no idea how to handle and then LITERALLY gave us the words to speak. These people were broken, and rejoiced when they learned that Jesus could redeem them and that God really did love them. Sophia and I would leave every house just filled with the joy of the Lord, because we know that He used us to reach those people.
Guys, it was incredible. Even though we had nothing to offer them, Jesus did. Our obedience combined with God’s faithfulness came together and brought people into the Kingdom of God. Too cool.
Anyway, there are so many other Kenya stories to share and we haven’t even been here a week! I can’t wait to see how He uses us in our time here!
Wow, I miss you all!
Love, Kelly.
