This is the greeting you would expect anywhere you go. For
example when we met our ministry contact I fully expected to hear this familiar
phrase. Our ministry contact this month is Deliverance Church in Tororo,
Uganda. This woman named Esther, the wife of one of the church elders, was
greeting us when we first arrived. But instead of saying feel at home she said
something that has continuously changed my prayers so far this trip. She said “feel
at Jesus because he is the only thing we ever need”. When I put this into
context when thinking about the people of Uganda, home for these beautiful
people is not usually a place of comfort and security. The majority of people
live in dirt huts with straw roofs. So “feel at home” doesn’t resonate positive
and warming feelings here. But “feel at Jesus” does. It helped me to realize
that what these people need is Jesus. Someone who can always be a source of
comfort and security. He is all we will ever need.
