That’s pretty much EXACTLY what I woke up to this morning.
Knowing I would be celebrating my birthday in Africa, I was PRETTY excited. Of course, while in the states I had no idea what that would exactly look like but an African birthday party sounded pretty fantastic to me – whatever it would entail. So being the CRAZY bunch that we are, 9 of us decided to stay up until 12:01 until June 30th African style. So I sat on our freezer (We have a freezer?! I know. Complete blessing.) in the kitchen of our small, beautiful African home as 9 members of my new family serenaded me to an extremely amazing, semi-off pitch “Happy Birthday.” My heart genuinely loved every second of it. Because aren’t EXTREMELY crazy, we made sure to we headed to bed not much later than 12:30.
Jesse, on the other hand, could not seem to fall asleep. So, I took out the ole’ iPod, turned on my worship playlist, broke out the trusty journal, and jammed out with God for awhile. I was just completely filled with joy. The simplicity of just hanging out with the Lord in the wee hours of the morning on my 19th birthday – I couldn’t imagine a better place to be. Finally falling asleep in the Lord’s presence just happened to be foreshadowing of how amazing the rest of the day would be.
We woke up to a breakfast of bananas! Love love love! A wonderful group of ladies from my team decided we just wanted to have a fun, relaxed day. We went into town, went to a restaurant (delicious!), went back to the house, watched a movie on the laptop while we ate chocolate, and loved every minute of it!
As I write this blog, I look over at Kelly and say “I really love writing this blog. It just makes me happy.”
I know the day doesn’t sound too action packed, but it was such a great day. God truly showed me how to celebrate just being where He wants me to be. Right here in Kenya. In His presence.
Getting dark fast in Kenya though! Gotta head home! Can’t wait to see what He has in store this coming week.
Much love.
