Back from “the bush”! AKA, Kwapa village and Morekebu church, and back in Tororo for one week until Kenya.
Etched in my heart are the Ugandan children from the village. One of the little girls we met was Mercy, who couldn’t have been more than four years old with a sassy spirit and gorgeous eyes. A few days ago I was in the shade trying to escape the heat, and I saw her chasing butterflies around the hut. In the midst of a long day, watching a child errupt in laughter and chase the butterflies in the sun made me think of my own joy – of all the kids I’ve babysat back home, about whether I could find unspeakable joy in dancing after God’s creation too.
Jesus says we ned to have a child-like faith, I belive we need to have a child-like joy too. Every morning we’d wake up to tons of kids just laughing, their laughter brought more healing to our souls than any kind of $200hour therapy. Their gentle and lively spirits have taught me more about what a life filled with Jesus should look like, more than we ever could have taught them at their schools. So this next week in Tororo, if I see a butterfly, I just may do a little dance – for how much life Jesus has given us!
