Love has been a big part of my preparations for this trip. It continues to be a big part of this trip, even as it’s just the beginning. We are called to love. I was listening to a song called Love Them Like Jesus and the chorus goes like this:
Just love them like Jesus
Carry them to Him
His yoke is easy
His burden is light
You don’t need the answers
To all of life’s questions
Just know that He loves them
He’ll stay by their side
Love them like Jesus
I need to love my team like Jesus. I need to love the people in Uganda like Jesus, I need to love the people in Kenya like Jesus. I need to love the people in Tanzania like Jesus. I need to love the people back home like Jesus. No matter who they are or what they’ve done, I need to love them like Jesus. I need to forgive the ones that have hurt me and just love them like Jesus. I need to love the battered, the broken, the wounded, the ones that feel alone, the abandoned, and the unlovable. I have been there. I wanted to feel loved. When people saw me that way they loved me like Jesus and it changed me. These people are there and just want to feel that love. They want to know someone does care. I’m not just talking about the people in Africa. I’m talking even about the people at home. If you’re reading this maybe you want to feel loved. Maybe you feel like you have nothing left and no one cares. Maybe you feel abandoned or broken or alone., just know He does love you. You are His children. Sometimes we need to be reminded of that. I know I need to be reminded how much He loves me and how much he cares for me. Because I need to be reminded I need to love others like Jesus so that can be their reminder. I need to love them like Jesus no matter what their story is. I need to love them like Jesus.
