No Place I’d Rather Be

September 04, 2012

Something I love about living way out in the bush of Kenya is spending the entire evening around the campfire.  Just the 14 of us, and our Massai brothers and sisters.  Every single night. Tonight is especially beautiful.  Pitch black and cuddled around the fire with everyone, bright stars completely covering the wide African sky, worshipping our God a cappela in the Massai language. I love the unique way they dance, and how they laugh endearingly when we try our best to imitate. I love these people. I love this place… I love the sense of unity I feel right now. Living on the other side of the planet, in a place I don’t know, sitting intermixed with my favorite girls and our big Kenyan family, worshipping so purely. Two different worlds, three different languages, all different ages, but one awesome God.

Tonight was one of those moments that opened my eyes. I could never try and create a more beautiful moment. Sitting in a big circle surrounding the bright warm fire. Worshipping. Singing the words, “There’s no place I’d rather be, than here in Your love, here in Your love.” Little Nashupie sitting on my lap, slowly dozing to sleep with my arms wrapped around her. Her little head rested on the side of my face, her soft curly hair, her dark eyes closed real softly. I glance up, I see the enormous sky on this clear night, bigger than I’ve ever seen, still completely covered with stars. I hear the soft voices still singing the same song. I feel the cool African breeze with that ever-present smell of the smoke. One my favorite little girls still dozing on my lap. So faintly, I hear Nashupie sing along in her sweet, sweet little voice, in broken English, “There’s no place I’d rather be, there’s no place I’d rather be, than here in Your love.”

As I sit here in this beautiful place, surrounded by these people I love, all worshipping in all different voices, I feel completely speechless; overflowing with peace. There’s no place I’d rather be than here in Your love.

There is no place I would rather be than Tiamamute, Kenya. Than right here in His love.
