If I’m being completely honest, the thought of blogging
everything that has been happening on this trip is really overwhelming. How can
I articulate what it was like to live with the Maasai? How can I communicate
the miracles I’ve seen? How the Holy Spirit has led this team? But if there’s
one theme that has presented itself over and over again, it is the faithfulness
of our Father. I’m gonna go ahead and just throw a couple instances out there
and you can see for yourself how awesome God’s power is…
We were going door to door out in the Kenyan bush (it ended
up being about two huts cause they’re so far away from each other). We talked
with a couple of Maasai women about the gospel and beliefs and lifestyles. Before
we left, we asked what they needed prayer for. They needed rain. It’s dry
season for them and it hasn’t rained in months. These people have to walk miles
to fetch water and it’s taking its toll. Livestock is dying. People are dying. The
need for rain is great. So we prayed. We prayed for rain. And that night it
rained! The next day I was thinking about how awesome that was and how good our
God is and then a thought popped into my head. What if I prayed for rain that
day too? Then doubt set in. I didn’t want to pray for it again because what if
it didn’t rain? I was ready to settle for the miracle of yesterday, but you can’t
put God in a box. So that day I prayed knowing that I pray to the same God that
is spoken of in Revelation 4 as having the appearance of jasper and carnelian
with a rainbow resembling an emerald encircling his throne and angels screaming
“Holy, holy, holy!” Sure enough, that night it rained.
Another instance of God’s faithfulness was how He confirmed
with me how He speaks to me. We were sitting at a coffeehouse in Nairobi and as
individuals going to the Lord about where we were supposed to go in Tanzania.
In case you didn’t know, we had absolutely no plans going into Tanzania. We
just asked the Lord where He wanted us and that’s how we ended up where we did.
So there I sit at the coffee shop and I get the feeling I need to talk to the
woman that is sitting at the table next to me. I’m not one to invite myself to
a stranger’s table while they eat and strike up a conversation but something
was really telling me to go. As I debated in my head whether or not I should
interrupt her lunch, her phone rang and the ringtone sang “God will make a way”. She answered but no one was on the other line
so she hung up and carried on. So then I knew that she was a Christian, or at
least knew about God, and that she knew English. But I still didn’t want to go.
Her phone rang again, this time to the singing of “Above all powers”.
Seriously? Then as if God hadn’t handed me enough encouragement, the thought
came to me about her being from Tanzania. I knew I had to talk to her or I’d
regret it. So I did. She was from Tanzania. She teaches English at a school and
was able to give me some contact info. God really walked me through that one!
So through that experience, the prayer of mine to know God’s voice was
answered.
There are stories after stories I could tell you about how
faithful God has been to me and my team. I am so thankful for it. It goes along
with the Psalm our team has looked to throughout the entire trip. Psalm 92:2 “to
proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night”. So my
challenge to you is to look back on your day and remember how faithful God was.
It’s been absolutely insane on this trip! God is so good!
