Welcome to the Middle of Nowhere, Population You

So our time in Kenya was spent out in
the Bush in the small village of Ngabolo. By village I mean huts
spread out all over the country side what could be a five minute walk
to an hour. The closest town was three hours away. It was a
beautiful desert wasteland. Wonderful mountains and scattered trees
surrounded us. During our drives to and from town we would see
elephants, zebras and giraffes along the road.

(Our view every night.)

(These big guys carried our supplies 6k while we walked with our packs.  Other teams traveled
15-18k.)

(Welcome to door to door in Kenya, start walking.)
Our contact was an awesome man of God,
Pastor David. We tented by his house enclose by the thorn boundaries
that surrounded his home. We got to spend the month getting to know
his wife and kids very well. Over the month we became part of their
community. We cooked for ourselves and the family and also gathered
fire wood and water from the well. It was a great experience living
on the basic necessities.

Most of our days were spent going to
local homes and spending a few minutes to a few hours getting to know
the people and sharing the love of God with them. The best part was
that we were able to return to the homes during the month and
continue our friendships that we had made.

The locals loved having us around and
even dressing us up in formal ware. We were also able to visit some
of the schools and local churches.

Some of my favorite times of ministry
were our prayer walks. Our team would break off into two groups and
go separate ways. During this time we would pray to God about a
great number of things then spend some time talking about what was
going on in our lives and what God was wanting to do.

(We had a great time with some of the
local children that would help us find our way around if we got lost.)

Overall Kenya was a very humbling
month. I started it off exhausted in every way possible. With my
experience on The World Race I loved being out in the middle of no
where but here was different in the beginning. Due to my exhaustion
from other things I was over tenting, dirty water (Ya I didn’t shower
for 26 days out in the Bush), and the hot sun all the time. As I let
God break me again my passion for Him and His creations quickly
returned and my joy and peace were restored. I am very thankful for
my time in Kenya and I will miss it.
