The rains came down
and the floods came up
The rains came down
and the floods came up
The rains came down
and the floods came up
and our tents went floating away!
…So they didn’t really go floating away, but if they were empty they definitely would have floated away. Here in Tanzania, specifically Arusha, they aren’t in a drought like Kenya. April is rainy season and it doesn’t just rain..it downpours and thunderstorms for hours on end. In my mind that’s super awesome! I love thunderstorms, but not while tenting and the ground under me stops soaking up the water and the whole area where my teams tents are becomes a pond. It wouldn’t be a problem except the ground doesn’t absorb the water. That makes our tent grounds become a pond. The pond becomes ankle deep. The water slowly seeps into our tent zippers. Not good at all. Then everything you own on the trip gets soaking wet. You can’t hang it out to dry because it’s still down pouring. What do you do then? Well you pack your belongings (pretty much your life) into your sleeping bag…lug it into the lodge..take all your wet clothes and hang them over the bathroom stalls, shower stalls, pretty much anywhere you can. Then you proceed to let it dry there all day. (or multiple days) Yup anyone that goes in that bathroom will see all your clothes everywhere, but by the end of the day will they be dry? There’s a possibility. Does it really matter though because the chances of it raining the very next day or even again that night are very high!
Oh yeah did I mention its only the 3rd day of rainy season. 🙂
