One Month In Maasai Land

Wow how to sum up such an amazing month! Well.....the first thing that I can say about it is "the grace is sufficient". (Thanks Liz for the quote) Between not showering, language barrier, Africa time, sleeping in tents, dirt, and goats and sheep being part of our everyday life it was an unforgettable month! Not to mention all of the amazing things that God was doing in and through our team of 14 strong ladies. The main focus of our ministry was hut to hut evangelism. It was so amazing how open and receptive the Maasai people were to Gods message. He was so ...

I Just Haven’t Met You Yet

Where do I even begin? There is really no way to sum up the past month in just one blog. I could talk for hours telling stories about living with the Masai tribe in the bush of Kenya. But there is one thing that God has put on my heart that I hope will stay with me throughout my life. God has opened up my eyes to the concept of bringing honor to the people I haven’t met yet. Sounds strange, right? Yeah, I am not sure if I am able to put this thought into the right words, but I will try. I realized that it is so easy for me to go about my life (living with much more than I need) and...

Ma(YOLO)

"Mayolo", a pretty common Maasi phrase from our team, meaning "I don't know". Having never been out of the country, there were a lot of things that I didn't know going into Africa. I didn't know the language, I didn't know the people, I didn't know the food, and I didn't know what God had planned for our team. But now that our time in Kenya is over, I can say that there is a lot I know. I know some Swahili and Maasi, I know that I LOVE African cooking, I know that we stayed with the sweetest family in all of Kenya,...

I will miss you big!

It's been a flea infested, tired legs, showerless month living in the bush of Kenya. But I could not be more joyful and at home. More contagious than our fleas was the smiles and laughter shared with our new family. And more important than our tired legs were the homes that were able to hear and receive the gospel. And better than a physical shower was the cleansing and renewal of our hearts from the peace and simplicity of our life in the bush.  This month has been filled with new experiences, new foods, new forms of transportation and most importantly new relationships within our...

Grace Like Rain (picture attached!)

"And hallelujah, Grace Like Rain falls down on me And hallelujah, And all my stains are washed away They're washed away"      “Grace like rain”, it’s become almost a theme here for me in Kenya. This song and phrase has always meant a lot to me, and its significance has become even more apparent in the past 4 weeks. The analogy of rain is so relevant to our time in the bush of Kenya. Every night we would pray for the rain to come and refresh the earth. The Maasi people are shepherds, and their flocks need good grazing. In the same way that...

Last week in Kenya

Family and Friends, Hopefully this is the last update you will receive on the blog from me, as staff! I am going to tell the leaders to make sure everyone blogs when they get out of the "bush" because I know you all are dying to hear from your Amazing Women on this team! That being said, I talked to the leaders this weekend. They said the team is still trucking along–but they are really looking forward to this country switch. The "Bush" has been incredibly hard physically–as it is very primitive. We intentionally put this country/ministry in the mix on our...
