Just Some Kenya!

I have only a few minutes, so enjoy some Kenya specialties:     Yes this is a gasoline tanker. Flipped.      Short Doors versus Tall Man.      The Great Kenyan Infatuation: Obama     Some awesome waterfall scenery!   Greetings from the beard!   The Lord has blessed us abundantly. It is truly an honor to enjoy His intricate and beautiful creation.

“Everybody shout, Freedom!”

Today, while family an friends are celebrating our freedom as a nation, I am receiving freedom from the Lord thousands of miles away from home. Today the Lord healed me and showed me how strong He is in my weakness. The past month I have dealt with an agonizing abscess in my mouth from a much needed root canal. As we traveled from Uganda to Kenya, the infection only continued to get worse. Last Friday I threw my hands up- I was broken, confused and could not understand why the Lord brought me to east Africa, just to bring me to my weakest point. That night I was done. I was over Uganda,...

so what’s it like to be a missionary?

so a question someone might ask is “what is it like to be a missionary?”, let me tell how i’ve seen it. To be honest, sometimes it’s absolutely awful. Sometimes you feel alone. I have great family here, but they’re just not the same as friends from home. Sometimes i get frustrated when i’m trying to tell something to the locals and they just don’t understand because our cultures are so different. Sometimes i get sick, like when you eat a fried egg and then find out that it has been sitting out for 5 days before it was cooked. Sometimes i have a...

What it Means to Serve

My Dad wrote me a letter before my trip for me to read on the plane.  Little did I know, his wisdom has turned out to be one of the greatest lessons I have learned on this trip:  “Remember that to feed a hungry person or give water to a thirsty person, to clothe a naked person or give shelter to a homeless person-only to have them die and go to a Christ-less eternity-is ultimately tragic.  Do what you can to meet their practical needs, but it is most important that they see Jesus in all that you do and say-so they might have an opportunity to respond to the...

Jerusa and Christina Shusho

I’ve been in Kenya for a week now and I’ve picked up my computer many times in hopes that an idea for a blog would spring to life. I’ve mostly contemplated writing about a friend I’ve made here: Jerusa. So, that’s what the basis of my blog will be about! Jerusa is one of the women serving us while we stay in Kenya. She has been cooking us meals, grocery shopping and staying in the room next to our house. Jerusa is twenty four years old and committed her life to the Lord at age seventeen. Since then, she has finished school in Busia and taken some college...

Words are Futile. Irritation more so.

These lovely Kenyans firmly believe that “Eric the Leader” has something to say, anytime there is some sort of formal function.  Some days, I don’t.  I do not enjoy speaking when I have no conviction or passion behind the words I say.  Yesterday was one of those days where I would have rather kept my mouth shut.  Unfortunately, that was not what God had in mind.  It was not what He had in mind when we visited a church that expected me to introduce the team to the congregation and share why we were there.  It was not what He had in mind...
