Community

On this trip I have realized that there are many aspects of the American church that are not as strong as they should be. One of these things that the church is lacking is the sense of community. Yes churches do have community, but do they truly have the community that they should have, the community that the Bible talks about? If you have read Acts, you know what community I am talking about. In Acts 2:42-47 it says,         All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the...

A Backwards City

My apologies to everyone for the lack of posts. But you will be glad to read that Jesus is moving in Maputo, Mozambique. During our month in Maputo we stayed with Felito Utuie, a disciple of the Heidi Baker ministries. He is 31 and has already accomplished so much for the kingdom of God. He has seen Jesus deliver people from witch doctor curses. He has been stoned and run out of muslim villages for holding crusades. He has even saved whole muslim villages including the devout chief of the village with the power of Christ. He is a man of God. It was such an honor to work alongside him during...

At Least One More.

In Africa, the answer to a question starting with “How many…?” can usually be answered with “at least one more.”   How many people can we fit in this African bus? This van? The bed of this pickup truck? At least one more.   How many meals are we going to eat rice? At least one more.   How many poop conversations are we gonna have? At least one more.   How many times is Carmella going to win Monopoly? At least one more.   How many mosquitos am I going to kill in my tent? At least one more.   How any days can I go without...

Show the Jesus Film, preach the gospel, and heal the sick.

Last month in Mozambique we stayed with a pastor named Filito Utuie. He was a man who was clearly anointed by God and Filito was blessed with many spiritual gifts. He told us a story of when he went to a Muslim village in northern Mozambique and wanted to share the love of Jesus there. He told the chief of the village he wanted to show the Jesus film, preach the gospel, and heal the sick. The chief didn’t care too much for the first two things he said, but once Filito said “heal the sick”, the chiefs eyes got a little bit wider. After the film and a powerful message, the...

Gift is a Dreamer

Gift is a dreamer.   I am always in constant questioning of why men and women like this are so few. My mind is always boggled after speaking with these brilliant people. Honestly I can never talk enough about them. They are dreamers. They are the undaunted. Gift is this. A man with a dream. He was not just this, however. He is a man who truly lives and carries the hopes and dreams of a generation on his back without fear. I met this man at a care point. He greeted me with a broad smile and a “hello my friend!” His joy was absolutely toxic. As Ellie, Daniel, and I instantly...
