Broader Horizons

Most people in the U.S. have heard the phrase "broadening horizons." In the context I have heard it this often means exploring one's sexuality or experimenting with drugs or alcohol. That is not what that phrase should stand for, and now I want to encourage you to broaden your horizons. People like to be comfortable, they like to experience things that they already know, people like order and structure. This can mean going to church each Sunday and singing songs they know, knowing the correct handshake with which to greet someone, or even eating food that they know they...

A MZUNGU named Bethany

On the first day we arrived in Uganda we were blessed to meet up with a past world race participant named Bethany. She went on the world race and then decided it was her calling to move back to Mukono, Uganda with a friend to build a library and extra classrooms at Champions Primary School. She has been working to raise money and is only $8000 away from being able to be fully funded. Praise God! When I first meet her I was unsure how to react because she was the first mzungu (white person) I had seen a while. Being able to have a normal conversation without a language barrier or heavy...

Jesus is present

Jesus is present. We CAN see Jesus. We can see Him in the lost, we can see Him in the found, we can see Him in the joyful, we can see Him in the darkness, and we can see Him in ALL His people.             This is what I’ve learned most on this trip. I’ve seen Jesus all over Kenya and Uganda thus far. I’ve seen Him in the African people and in my Mzungo family.             We arrived in Setiman,...

Having Nothing Yet Possessing Everything

As I was reading through 2 Corinthians this week God really put on my heart to write a blog about 2 Corinthians 6:3-10.  Specifically in verse 10 when Paul says "Having nothing, yet possessing everything."  The only problem is I wasn't quite sure what God wanted me to share about this verse. I thought about Rukungiri, the beautiful little town among the tropical forest like region of Uganda that we have landed in.  I thought of the people here, so joyful and welcoming, yelling muzungu (white person) as we walked through the town.  I thought of the boys at...

I See Jesus

How is God showing me He loves me? How is He romancing me now? After reading the book Captivating by John and Stasi Eldridge, I began to ask the Lord those questions every morning. "What we need is for him to open our eyes, to open our ears that we might recognize his voice calling to us, see his hand wooing us in the beauty that quickens our hearts" Throughout my time in Kenya and Uganda, I have been realizing that God has called me to Africa to love on the people here. Love that is not my own. An unconditional, exhilarating, supernatural love that only comes through the...

A Joy in Uganda

The theme for our time in Uganda has been transformation. The Lord has revealed this word to many of my team members but it has manifested itself in different ways for each of us.  God has laid several of His truths on my heart to begin this process but there is one that has taken precedence lately.  One fruit of the Spirit in particular He is pushing me to produce. Joy. Joy that is only conceivable and attainable because the stone has been rolled away. I've been blessed in this second country with the opportunity to teach in a primary school.  When I walk into that...
