KENYA me!

I just got Kenya’d. I didn’t know that Kenya would be so much different than the U until I experienced it. When we crossed the border into Kenya we had to wait for clearance to cross and while we were waiting we found a white, salty substance that looked like a certain controversial substance on a newspaper on a counter outside. Don’t ask me how we found out it was salty.   We then proceeded to be pleasantly introduced to our new home in Bungoma for the coming weeks: a fine little house that cozily fits all 15 of us in its 3 rooms. I love it there. So far Kenya has...

Kenya feel the love tonight? <3

Fact : the Lion King is based out of South Africa, not Kenya. Fail! But, there is actually swahili in it. Hakuna Matata does actually mean No Worries. and Rafiki means friend. Lol     Jambo! I hope this blog finds all my friends, family, and readers well (: Let me begin by telling you just how much this little Mzungo misses America. But my heart just BLEEDS umpendo (love) in Kenya. We are currently in Bungoma, Kenya which is relatively close to the Uganda border, however, Kenya and Uganda are NOTHING alike. Kenyans are a lot taller. And they speak much better English. And the...

Goodbye Uganda

My last week in Uganda has been a good one. The pastors little girls, Debrah and Rachel, have been so fun and even the little toddler, Gloria, has been coming out of her shell to get to know me. It is such a blessing to be with such an amazing family, and it is definitely bittersweet leaving this place. As I leave Uganda, I leave relationships that I have made with families, brothers, sisters, and little ones. I have given my email out countless times, but it is still tough to leave these people.  Yesterday the men of our group took a walk up this mountain where we had to climb to get...

Cooking with Abigal

Uganda, initially a crazy country and very unexpected. When I think of Africa, I think of broken and lost people, without food, money and shelter. Now at the end of our stay, I can see how real these people are. Looking at them, they aren’t lost, this is their life and they don’t know any different. My world, and my teams world have really been rocked while being here.   Our host family have been incredible and gracious servants of the lord. Who in America would take in 16 college students into a tiny African house without having running water or even a stove to cook our 3...

Toodle-lu, Mzungu!

Here I sit in an internet café in Uganda, knowing this is my last day in this country.  Whenever we walk down the street, the children yell or sing, “Bye, mzungu!”  “Mzungu” is the word they use here for any foreigner- or white person. I don’t think I will ever get sick of their little voices telling us goodbye and as we actually leave Uganda, I take their sweet faces with me. The Lord has taught me so much in the past few weeks; I am so grateful! I came to Africa Expecting to have my heart broken and to share God’s love with those who...

Don’t Free This Slave

Africa.  You have not captivated my heart.  You have not rocked my world.  You have not convicted the American me. Call me a heartless missionary.  I am not the one to say you can’t judge me.  I cannot even judge myself.  As I have walked your red roads and seen your beautiful inhabitants, my mind has been, in a way, captive. Rewind a several months.  I sit on a tractor, guiding its course across a field turning rye-covered ground into furrows of dark earth.  The engine’s steady growl is the only voice that speaks to me.  It is...
