Black, white, tall, and short

Denny, buff Mexican. RJ, hunting Californian. Cole, fishing Southerner. Ryan, loving family guy. Richard, middle-aged New Zealander. This past Tuesday, I just sat in a gym watching all of these guys and probably 10 more very different ones playing basketball. As I sat there, God just spoke to me. He said, “They’re all here for me. That’s it.” The only reason that all of those men are all in Tanzania is for God. The longer that I’m in Africa the more God is teaching me this lesson. He created such different people. He created blacks, whites, Mexicans, short...

In the arms of Jesus

Two or three days ago we were at an orphanage just lovin’ on some kids. There was one girl in particular, Jenifer, who never said a word but just wanted to be held. I was sitting on these tiny, wooden chairs, squished between two tables, and this girl would not leave my lap for anything. I tried to get her to smile, but she wouldn’t. Finally, I just started praying that she would just fall asleep. God kept giving me images of girls who have been raped and sexually abused, and I knew there was a really good possibility this 7 year old had experienced that. So I prayed that she...

Favor > Fear

These past few weeks in Moshi, Tanzania, God has been taking me through so many incredible life lessons. One of the biggest ways He’s been teaching me is through an interactive journal I have called Qualities of a Spiritual Warrior by Graham Cooke. A lot of what I am about to share is directly from Cooke’s book, and I hope the story of my encounter with this lesson will bless and encourage you. The most recent lesson I’ve been going through with the Lord during my time at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro is the concept of defeating fear in our lives. Fear can surface in...

driving with a blindfold

“so we are going to Tanzania, in 3 days but we have no contacts, no phone numbers, no ministry connections, no bus tickets, no accommodations, no plans. here is your country now go explore and rely on God.” UM WHAT?!?!?!  screamed in the back of my mind when our leader, Angie, told my team about blank plans for our last and final country. I was confused. I mean the whole trip had been planned out for us so perfectly, the ministry we’d been connected to was impactful. The places and sights we’d seen were outstanding. I didn’t want this trip to now end on a...

July 20, 2011 Night

There in life lies a path for all of us to walk. Mine has begun just in recent years. God’s good plans have become visible to my eyes now as understanding of the Holy Spirit’s workmanship becomes stronger. Christ has given me faith and I faithfully trust him; I want to follow his leadership like that of John the Baptist. John being a man who doubted even the Son of Man responded to his call and served God. I respond now to my call. My call is to listen and follow; to carry my cross where directed.   Oh why does evil come into your house oh Lord? It corrupts even your church...

A Day Without Words

Once again it has been a while since my last post and so much has happened that I couldn’t possibly type it all down. So since last time I posted I have spent over 9 days in the bush with the Maasai people and no shower. From there we went to Nairobi where we took a few days to scrub the mud and dirt that had caked itself onto our arms, legs, and faces, as well as plan, pray, and prepare for what was to come in Tanzania. After a few days of searching for things online and listening to the Lord we decided to go straight to Dar Es Salaam. After 2 days of travel we arrived in Dar es...
