Alive in Your Presence

Hey everyone! It’s Abby on Lauren’s account… I forgot my password (surprise) :). Being in Moshi has been such a blessing so far – God’s beauty radiates through all the brokenness that we’re see so brightly. Isaiah 55:12 says that “for you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” I think about where we physically are – ar the feet of Mt. Kilimanjaro surrounded by God’s hot pink flowers and swaying trees...

The Lord Gives and The Lord Takes Away… But Always Love

This lifetime is full of relationships and opportunities for relationships… no matter how long or short they may be. I’ve been thinking about how many people I meet or come in contact with over my life… all the conversations, smiles, waves, or glances from perfect strangers, the relationships with my African hosts for the weeks of ministry, the relationships I have with the people on my team, and the past and current relationships with my friends, family, classmates, and coworkers back at home. Through my 21 years (well, 21 years on Tuesday… yay!! ) I have seen how...

God has a mouth

I’m going to take you on a journey. This journey as one stop: Vic Burrows. This is a man that I met two days ago, but has changed the course of my life in a simple 30 minutes. We are staying here in Moshi, Tanzania at a mission house, and there is a conference happening at a hotel about 10 minutes away from us. We walk to lunch and dinner every day. There is a mission team from New Zealand that is staying at the hotel, and this man Vic is one of the leaders. He’s actually from the States, and is a missionary in New Zealand right now. He’s probably about 60 some years...

at the feet of Jesus (and Mount Kilimanjaro)

Hello everyone! Keith, Cole, Cherise, Abby, Lauren, Megan, Lindsay and I are now in Moshi, Tanzania directly at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is absolutely beautiful here. Our team spent about 4 days in Nairobi, Kenya last week praying to God asking Him where in Tanzania He wanted to send our team. Since we had absolutely no plans, locations, or ministry contacts set up for our time in this country, we were very excited to hear God put the town of Moshi on our hearts, and then go so far as to set us up with a loving missionary family based out of Bethel Church in Redding, California to...

“I can hear the rhythm of the Lion of the tribe of Judah”

Hello from Nairobi! My team and I have been back in Nairobi for a few days after 11 days with the Maasai in Ngabolo, Kenya. I can’t help but be blown away by how much faith the believers have in Ngabolo. Their church services are 5-15 people in a small room, they have no instruments, and they  have risked being persecuted and isolated because of their love for Christ. Yet they press on boldly. It makes me think of the 2-hour church services we complain about driving to, or too “busy” we are for a Wednesday night Bible study. One of the women, Mary, told me that...

Be free!

“Welcome William, you are free here”! The time we spent in the Maasai land taught me a lot about freedom… freedom from entitlement. “You are entitled to your own opinion”. How often have we heard that before? Turns out, that isn’t true when you’re following Jesus. He says that if we want to find our life (our life in eternity with Him), we have to lose it (our life here on earth). That means die to ourselves, our desires, our wants, and our needs. The Father knows what we need, and promises to provide for us. But how often do we allow Him to do...
