Ecclesiastes 3:1 "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven."
There is a time for everything.
During our two weeks in the Kenyan bush we had many incredible experiences. We evangelized to the local Maasai people, staying in our tents within our thorn bush enclosed compound and learned how to work and interact within our team. Staying with the Maasai tribe, eating their food and sharing campfires with them, we experienced a culture unlike any other. We were even incredibly blessed to witness God's healing power as we did ministry.
In Uganda we were met with many challenges but also many celebrations. We spent 18 days in a beautiful house with many western comforts including American food and our own beds. At the same time, we were forced to lean even further into Christ as we experienced attacks of the devil through thoughts and dreams. We built new relationships with our host and the boys at Makobore boarding school that brought us so much joy and we more clearly portrayed the body of Christ as we grew even closer as a team.
When we began to reach the end of our trip and traveled to Rwanda, God revealed how much more he still had to teach us. We struggled to stay positive in our own strength as our living conditions became less comfortable and the ministry became less familiar. However, once again the power of Jesus prevailed and in particular he displayed to me every day how much he delights in me as his daughter to an even greater degree than how I was delighting in the children there.
All I can say is, God is good. As we pack up to go home, I cannot help but cry for how much I will miss this place. I will miss the people here and all they have taught me with their faith in Christ. I will miss the children who laugh and play and look at me with their angel eyes. I will miss my team who have encouraged, inspired and built me up in Christ. I will miss this land and all the beautiful landscapes that it holds. But with all of these reservations I have about returning home, Christ has provided a reason.
There was a time to live in the Kenyan bush. There was a time to eat American food in Uganda. There was a time to hold and love on children in Rwanda. And now there is is a time to come home.
This is the time that Christ wants to continue to grow us as we integrate all that he has taught us here into our everyday lives. So watch out America, here we come!
