The Ugliest Word I Know

Ugly. Today I sat with three little girls who must have said that word at least twenty times. I never realized how much I despise the mere existence of that word until today. Four letters that have taken a painful blow on the self esteems of countless little girls. As I sat on the play ground with three beautiful young Swazi girls, my heart broke every time that word slipped out of their little mouths. They ranged from the ages of ten to fourteen and had come to the care point for a meal of beans and porridge after a long day at school. As they twisted our hair in their little fingers and stroked...

We’re here! (Parents please read)

Written September 1st. I have 17 amazing new brothers and sisters, men and women of God. They encourage me to love God more and more everyday. The men are continually showing us women how loved we are and how men of God should act.    We have just arrived in Mozambique and are settling down into our tents for night number one. I finally have some time to myself and think about this last week and write my first blog post. This last week at training camp I have grown deeper in my relationship with God, I have shed free of things I used to let define me, I surrendered things to the Lord...

A Time for Everything

Ecclesiastes 3:1 "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." There is a time for everything. During our two weeks in the Kenyan bush we had many incredible experiences. We evangelized to the local Maasai people, staying in our tents within our thorn bush enclosed compound and learned how to work and interact within our team.  Staying with the Maasai tribe, eating their food and sharing campfires with them, we experienced a culture unlike any other.  We were even incredibly blessed to witness God's healing power as we did ministry. In...

I’ve finally found where I belong

It’s not about where you are, or what you’re doing. It’s not about whom you’re with, or what you see in front of you; a sunrise or a blank page. It’s about his love. It’s about being completely wrapped up in his love. It’s about being delighted in and marveled at. It’s about being forgiven and adored. It’s about being in the presence of a Father who sets you free, and looks at you with love and says “Darling, my beautiful one, arise and come away with me.” And that’s when you take his hand and put so much trust in him that...

All I Need

It has been a great week here in Rwanda.  We are living with our amazingly energetic and funny host Pastor Innocent along with his wife and three kids.  They have certainly kept us busy and entertained during our time living with them.  One very important thing the Lord has been teaching me is how incredibly much we need Jesus here and everywhere. As much as our host family has blessed us, we have found ourselves in quite close quarters with little to no privacy.  Our mornings begin with 12 people trying to get ready in one bathroom and our nights conclude as we drop into...

12 Americans. 1 bathroom. You do the math.

I apologize in advance for the lengthiness of this blog, but summing up 11 people into 2 pages was a challenge. Enjoy!   If someone would have told me 2 months ago I would be comfortable enough to share with 11 strangers just how well, or how not so well, my colon was working on a day-to-day basis, I would have laughed at such ridiculousness. But oh how wrong I would have been. After spending every waking…and sleeping moment with people for almost two months, your business becomes just as much their business.   No I’m not in a sorority… So apparently before I met...
