Sopa, Meisisi Yesu!

Greetings family and friends! The Lord has been working in and through our team so much already. We have experienced so many beautiful things and God's presence as we travel and spend time with the Maasai people. We drove the three hour drive from Nanyuki, Kenya to the area called Masul, Kenya in the Bush of Africa. The drive was so beautiful with mountainous scenery, friendly African faces, giraffes, camels, a hyena, and gazelles.

We were greeted so warmly by the Maasai people after the bumpy dirt road drive. They prepared a meal for us and we all set up our tents and settled in. It rained the first two nights which was a blessing to the people. Every morning we are awoken by the glorious sound of the village livestock…all 152 goats and sheep, donkeys and cows. I even woke up to the sound of a zebra and the sight of an elephant! So cool!

I have grown so close to the Maasai people in the village we are staying in. The team has learned so much of the Maasai culture and some of their language. They prepare food for us three times a day and we have all stayed healthy. I love the food, especially chapati, Maasai coffee, and the pineapple. We even danced and sang with the people around the camp fire!.

We attended the Maasai church which was an amazing experience, especially their worship. I felt the presence of the Lord while we sang and danced to the joy of the Lord. The women all dress in many colors with beaded necklaces and earings that make noise when they dance. Three team members read their testimony and Jillian had the courage from God to preach to the church community.

The team has grown so close to each other and to Christ. We all have received Maasai names from Pastor Joseph, and mine is Naserian which means Peaceful. We all get to share so much to each other and we have become a big happy family, even though we all stink from not having the ability to take a shower yet.

On Monday our team headed out on our first  day of ministry to reach out to four homes in Masul. We walk everywhere so walking up and down the rough mountain terrain is tiring. But the Lord worked through us to bring three people to Christ! Bless the Lord! He brought a new level of boldness out of me personally through the experience and worked courage into the team to preach the word of God.

I am so excited for what God has in store, because it is only day five in the area of Masul. Keep our team in prayer that we may maintain our unity in encouraging each other and growing in Christ so that we may be a strong team to reach many more people.
