I spy.

On the way to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda I played a little game with myself, I spy with my little eye Africa style. It is hard to imagine that the things I’m seeing here are starting to become “normal” where as a month ago I would be in shock. Africa is so beautiful and although the trees and wide skies are beautiful that isn’t what I mean. I mean that Africa is full of God’s natural creating. The beauty of Africa is the simplicity of it. People in their raw form utilizing everything they have and not living in abundance but in the bare necessities. It...

Questions that are only acceptable in Africa:

Method behind the madness. After a week or so in the middle of the bush of Africa, someone turned to me and asked, “Are you shaving your legs this week?” This question did not even phase me and I proceeded to answer honestly. A few seconds later we were still having a conversation about shaving for the next two months. After realizing what some of us were going to look like after not shaving for two months, I busted out laughing.   Only in Africa, would we be asking these questions, I thought.  Is this real life?...

A Little Peace of Kenya

Peace. The overwhelming theme of my time here in Kenya. The morning sunrise, the face of a hopeful woman, or the clarity God has given me through his presence. Some days peace comes in a morning spent just talking to God. Some days it comes in witnessing  the acceptance of Christ into someone's life. Some days in the reassurance that our ministry revolves around the heart of God. Even on the hard days peace comes in knowing we are not alone on this journey. Many days peace comes in Joseph Kaparo. A man after God's own heart. A leader and an adopted African father to our team....

Mornings and the Maasai

It's morning. Early morning.  The compound is brisk and the bleating of sheep and goats fill my ears along with the occasional rooster.  Yeyu (mother) Jane comes and helps make a fire.  No matter how early I rise, it seems her morning is always well underway by the time I'm awake.  She's already done several chores as I stumble out of my tent. I cherish this time.  Even if I can't wake up earlier than my hosts I can still beat the sun up.  And it's beyond worth it.  Pieces of light break through the clouds and appear across the...

God’s Power

God's Power First I want to talk about God's power in our ministry. In the past two weeks we have shared the gospel with many people in Musul. Around nine people accepted Christ , mesesi Jesu (praise Jesus in Maasai). Last Monday we  went to a house where we prayed for a girl with an open wound on her ankle, and a small girl who was sick. We returned there this week to see how they were doing and to encourage them. When we got there we were told that the next day both of the girls had been healed. The doubting Thomas in me has now been silenced. A tree can be judged by its...

Eyes Wide Open

It is impossible to explain all that I have experienced and learned in the last few days. I shock myself when I say days because I feel like I have been gone from home and in Africa for months! My world has been rocked, shaken and rattled. After a few days I can’t even imagine my life being the same once returning home.   After arriving in Africa on June 3 we spent a night in Nanyuki and the next day took a safari (journey) to the middle of Kenya. A place called Satiman, Kenya. We drove on dirt roads for over 3 hours and when we arrived, the most beautiful people greeted us. They...
