[God is here]

As a solid introvert, these few moments after 6AM are energizing, peaceful, and in a way, making paths for safe mental processing. I am the only one awake. And although there is only my breathing splitting the quiet in all of Pretoria, I am rewarded. The African sun greets me in a way it does no one else; I am the first one it says good morning to; I am the first skin it touches. Not everyone can say that. Our car was ambushed the first time we went to Mamelodi. The children just wanted the love of the Americans– the attention and affection of the missionaries. They saw no point in...

South Africa Arrival!

Our Fall 2014 “Africa Expeditions” team has officially arrived at the airport in South Africa!  Their leaders called about 30 minutes ago and their travel from Atlanta was uneventful and smooth.  The team will spend the coming days getting introduced to their ministry, coming to know the culture, and finding a routine for the months ahead.   They will be getting internet within the week so that they can communicate home and share more about what their days and weeks will look like.  Until then, we wanted to let you know that all is well.  Hope that...

Finally, Mozambique

Family and Friends,   We have arrived in Mozambique and have just finished our first day of ministry. We originally planned on being here on Friday but due to some visa issues we had to spend an extra weekend in Malawi. It was a hard goodbye. We grew really close to the family we were staying with and several members of the ministry we were partnered with. We had some amazing experiences and they taught us so much. Each of us have really cool stories about our time in Malawi.   We met several members of this ministry last night during an orientation time. We will be working in a...

Miracles on dirt floors

I always heard of miraculous healing stories that take place on mission trips, but I never thought that I would actually get to experience one for myself. This morning my team and I traveled about an hour south to a remote village in the town of Thyolo, Malawi. The morning had already started off rocky, 4 out of our 14 member team had to stay behind because of sickness and/or rest issues, so from the beginning the enemy was not wanting us to minister today. But soon we were on the road and headed to share the Gospel.   Once we reached the village, we broke off into teams where I was...

home.

I used to think home meant the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Then when I went to school and spent less time in Maryland, Nebraska became my home. And I was comfortable with that. But just as God likes to do when you get comfortable, he shook me all up. And home became Zambia.   People say home is where the heart is. It used to live in MD then NE but now I’ve left a good chunk of my heart in Zambia, but more specifically I’ve left it in the hands of two little humans named Daniel and Po po.   Daniel and Po po are brothers that live not even ten feet from the gate of the...

Goodbye Zambia, Hello Malawi

Family and Friends, We wanted to update you and tell you that we made it to Malawi last night. It was a 28 hour travel day consisting of three long bus rides. It was a hard day but we are so excited to be in Malawi! It is a beautiful nation with gorgeous mountains dominating the skyline. Our ministry host is blowing us away with his hospitality. The entire ministry is full of amazing people that we get to minister with. They showed us a schedule for our time here and it is going to be incredible. We cannot wait to see what God is going to do here! However, arriving here is bittersweet...
