hakuna matata.

It means no worries, for the rest of your days. I apologize if that song is stuck in your head, but you can thank me later. 😉 Okay, it's kind of silly but coming from Tanzania where they speak Swahili, this song got stuck in my head a lot. And God has been using it to teach me a few lessons.  I'm a worrier. Ask anyone that knows me well. I worry about the smallest, silliest things, and often let these fears and worries consume me.  The last few weeks have been tough. Homesickness has started to creep in and I have spent a lot of time thinking about the things going on...

Better blog now than not at all!

So, I have been majorly slacking with this whole blogging thing, so I figured I would give everyone an update on what's going on…   After having my first experience using public transportation here in Africa (3 days and a 24 hour bus ride later…) my team and I have finally made it to Tanzania. We are staying in a house that has a shower AND flushing toilet. Talk about being spoiled! We have been doing door to door ministry around our pastor's church. Most of the homes we've been going to are Muslim, so thats been a little hard to swallow. The...

Grace. Mercy. Alignment.

During a morning devotional a few days ago God revealed three words to me: GRACE. MERCY. ALIGNMENT. In the moment, I was curious as to why. This is one of those times that I really thank God for the dictionary and concordance in my Bible.   Grace – an undeserved favor or gift   That one is an eye opener. I am so undeserving of anything from God, yet he lavishes me with his love, forgiveness, and kindness. I started thinking of the blessings that He has given me: my LOVING family, fulfilling my dream of living in NYC, traveling the world, having a full-time job at 18 years...

Test, Truth, Temporary Assignment

A Godly, beautiful and very important lady in my life wrote me a note before leaving. Nearing the end of the first page she gave me an eye-opening reminder. “God will offer you a new test, a new truth and a new temporary assignment. Watch for them. Expect them and pray for the strength and endurance to pass them all.”         Tanzania has truly been a time of testing and truth for me.  In these few short weeks I have discovered more of who God is and who I am through Him than ever imagined.  While in the midst of...

wall.

Tanzania is quite the place. Being the only country out of the 3 on our expedition that I have not been too, I was nervous and excited, but unsure of what to expect. To be honest, the first week was ROUGH. Not only was I sick (all is good now, praise Jesus!) and not only did we experience some crazy travel days (TIA!) but I was walking into a very dark country, knowing I spiritually was not where I needed to be. The last week in Malawi I felt something change. Unfortunately it was not a good change. Rather than continuing to trek through my desert, I hit a big ole’ brick wall. And I...

Sunflowers

I have officially moved on from Malawi, and now call Tanzania my home. The first thing I noticed while trekking (a total of 36 hours on an African bus) through Tanzania were the sunflowers… amidst fields of corn or beside a mud shack.             These sunflowers demanded attention from every eye that passed. These bold statements yelled that, “this place matters!” or “see this beauty I portray”. The undeniable shock I felt in seeing not one, but many and many randomly placed sunflowers lingered in my mind...
