battle.

I am exactly where I am supposed to be.  This week has been incredible! Can I just start by saying that I have the BEST team!?  (I also am LOVING all these accents! Kentucky, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Michigan and Texas!) Training camp was awesome! God has been working on us this week, as individuals, and as a team. Aside from learning about the cultures we are going to, and the ministry side of it, we have been challenged to work on ourselves as well. There is a lot of work to still do. And it is an ongoing process. We talked a lot about giving up in order to receive what...

The. Blood. Is. Enough.

The blood of Jesus Christ is enough. Take a look at the plague of the firstborns in Exodus Chapter 11. The firstborn son in every family across Egypt was going to be killed. As an alternative, the Lord requested the families to slaughter a lamb and to place the blood of the lamb on the top and sides of their doorframe and… “when I see the blood, I will pass over you.” WHAT A PROMISE!   Along with all of the packs each passporter brought to training camp that weighed 50 pounds exactly, came a lot of burdens and struggles of the past and present. Imagine a perfect,...

How much can I carry?

After struggling to lift my 50 pound pack on my back and 20 pound pack on my front I realized just how heavy this load I'm carrying would be. Alone the weight of a sleeping bag or few clothes or some toiletries don't add up to much, but combined when forced together into a 65 liter pack it can become a bit overwhelming.             In the same way things we grasp little by little, though they may seem insignificant, add up to become unbearable and weigh us down more than we realize.      ...

A Family of Worshippers

The forming of a team seems pretty simplistic; you send in application, you get accepted, and you are placed into a team of people who did the same. But it’s so much more than that. These girls arrived at training camp and met a group of 10 complete strangers. Strangers that expect more honesty, openness, and transparency with each other than they have been with anyone else. Strangers that they now have to spend the next four months doing life and ministry with. Strangers that become family. We all come ready. Ready to serve, to grow, and  to change.    I am...

Kina Dada (for my sisters)

I went to training camp as homesick as I thought I could be. But today as I’m sitting at the Atlanta airport about to head home, after crying goodbyes, I realize I’m homesick all over again. You have become my family. You have helped me grow into a new woman, a woman on fire for God. I am truly blessed to have each and every one of you in my life. I will never forget these past four months and all the memories we have. I will forever miss going to sleep, eating, and using the bathroom with the 13 of you by my side. I will miss the bus rides and cramming into vehicles. I...

My Everyday African Life

Most nights, I go to bed with dirty feet. I constantly struggle to have basic conversations with a population who doesn’t speak my language. There are moments when the smell of B.O. and goat meat is a little more than I can handle. I hear the word “mzungu” an average about 800 times a day. Usually, I can’t remember the last time I took a real shower. Every single day has been a challenge. And every single day has been an absolutely incredible adventure of its own. I love East Africa. From the middle-of-nowhere bush of Kenya, to a little town in the mountains of...
