No Place I’d Rather Be

September 04, 2012 Something I love about living way out in the bush of Kenya is spending the entire evening around the campfire.  Just the 14 of us, and our Massai brothers and sisters.  Every single night. Tonight is especially beautiful.  Pitch black and cuddled around the fire with everyone, bright stars completely covering the wide African sky, worshipping our God a cappela in the Massai language. I love the unique way they dance, and how they laugh endearingly when we try our best to imitate. I love these people. I love this place… I love the sense of unity I...

One Month In Maasai Land

Wow how to sum up such an amazing month! Well.....the first thing that I can say about it is "the grace is sufficient". (Thanks Liz for the quote) Between not showering, language barrier, Africa time, sleeping in tents, dirt, and goats and sheep being part of our everyday life it was an unforgettable month! Not to mention all of the amazing things that God was doing in and through our team of 14 strong ladies. The main focus of our ministry was hut to hut evangelism. It was so amazing how open and receptive the Maasai people were to Gods message. He was so ...

Less is More

Hello all! To those who don't know me, my name is Roo and I just have to say that i love whoever it is you are reading this blog for! God has so faithfully answered prayers by blessing us with an amazing team and leaders.   And that's just the beginning.   I can't even begin to describe the countless blessings that have been poured out on us. For the past month we have been without any electricity, running water, real buildings, beds, toilets, showers and contact with anything outside of our new home: the Kenyan bush. Lacking so much, it has never...

simplicity.

Well, I could spend hours telling you all about the dirt, goats and vivid colors of living with the Maasai people, but I'll skip straight to the substantial stuff 😉 The Kenyan Bush (Tiamamut village, to be exact) let me see the things I wouldn't admit to myself…the ways I told God to pipe down and let me live my life. Writing it makes me feel so immature and foolish, which I most certainly was, but during the living it was not so clear. Out here, God is everything. He always was, I just didn't notice so much. That doesn't mean that every moment we are in dire...

The Beauty of Simplicity

"Nikki, Nikki get up Nikki, come seee the elephants." My First morning in the Bush of Kenya, I woke up to one of the sweetest girls outside my tent waiting for me to get up and see the elephants. Freeda is one of the daughters of our host family living in the bush. I fell in love with her the first night we met. Although I only spent a few days with her since she had to go off to school for 3 months, I learned a lot from this girl. She had the most precious smile and had the sweetest personality that brought joy to everyone she met. Freeda is just one of the many children here in...

We are now Maasai

The past month living with the Maasai way out in the bush of Kenya was an experience I will never forget! We had such an adventure. We were blessed with getting to become part of many wonderful families. Most of which had the last name Meshami… Everywhere you went, another Meshami! We learned the ways of how the Maasai tribe lives. We got to experience a Maasai wedding and unfortunately but fortunately a funeral. The funeral, although we didn’t know the woman who it was for, was hard because it was our mama’s sister. To see mama Agnus hurt that way was awful! But...
