For a Limited Time

We have about 18 days left until we’re all home again. 18. I don’t know how I feel about that.   Don’t get me wrong –I can’t wait to once again meet up with hamburgers, ice cream, hot showers and my family and friends. And I know that is the consensus of the team. But at the same time, I’ve lived my whole life dreaming of holding African babies, helping them for the sake of my Savior, and this place has offered so much more than that. There has not been one day here that hasn’t taught me something, humbled me, poured into me and/or allowed me...

Kenya, beautiful Kenya.

It feels likes I was just making my first Ken-Ya jokes (ex: “Ken-Ya Believe It?” “Ken-Ya pass the chipati?”) It feels like I just witnessed the first of many Kenya jerseys being bought by our team. Like I just met our translator/guide/friend Phillip for the first time. Or heard my first all night worship session on full volume from our church across the street. Or saw my first Kenyan street child and didn’t know how to react. It feels like Jerusa just woke us up to our first “African babies!” screams. That I did my first door...

Brian vs. Kenya

Brian. That’s the name of the boy who stole my heart this past week. This isn’t something I foresaw but I should have known. Let me give you a little background on the events prior to connecting with Brian. I arrived in Kenya just over two weeks ago. My first day on the town I met Brian, Junior and David the only street boys I’d see thus far. I’m quite familiar with children who don’t have parents, kids who have been beaten, neglected and never experienced love. In fact, my heart completely shatters upon an encounter with orphaned children. These kids...

Bring the Willing, Call the Faithful

“What is happening to me?” The question I am asking could be formulated in a more astute manner, such as… “What is God trying to teach me right now?”  But, that does not resonate with me.  My heart is reacting in ways it does not normally react.  This does not feel like a lesson.  It feels like a force I cannot withstand. At times, my heart does not respond when my eyes take in poverty, injustice, and death. I can walk away from people who do not know if they will be able to find the food they need for their malnourished family. I used to...

Kenya in a nutshell (:

Hello BEAUTIFUL readers. I’m sure after my last blog, several of you are scared to read this. So, let me explain myself. Yes, my last blog was written out of anger and frustration, but it by no means was me expressing that I wanted to go home.    I LOVE KENYA. My heart breaks at the idea of leaving these beautiful people tomorrow. But, there is a time and a season for everything. God’s will be done. So, I basically just wanted to say that I LOVE Kenya and I am so thankful for the opportunities we have had here. The ministry has been different EVERY single day. We have...

Just Some Kenya!

I have only a few minutes, so enjoy some Kenya specialties:     Yes this is a gasoline tanker. Flipped.      Short Doors versus Tall Man.      The Great Kenyan Infatuation: Obama     Some awesome waterfall scenery!   Greetings from the beard!   The Lord has blessed us abundantly. It is truly an honor to enjoy His intricate and beautiful creation.
