We are in Tororo! <3 This city is precious. The people are welcoming, humble, and love unconditionally. Being here for only a few days has already changed my perspective on basically everything. No matter how many words I use to describe this place, it would never be accurate. We have been partnering with Deliverance Church to do door to door evangelism and other types of ministry. This church has partnered with Compassion International, which is AWESOME! As soon as I found this out, I asked about my little sponsored boy, Nehemiah. He isn’t at this Compassion base, however. He is west of Kampala. Every Saturday all of the Compassion children come to the church and are taught by members of the church. It’s amazing to see how many children are living changed lives.
Door to door evangelism has been eye opening. The culture has taken some getting use to, but we are catching on. No matter what people are doing, they will stop and allow you to tell them about the love of Jesus. It’s humbling. We are having an open air crusade this week ( Thursday – Saturday) and we are praying that God shows up in a HUGE way! Please remember those who will be speaking. We are so excited! (By the way, open air crusades are a bid deal here. They go on constantly. We went to one a few nights ago and danced with all of the locals. :] )
Sunday I was given the opportunity to teach Sunday school to about 70 children. We talked about creation and sang songs. They led prayer and worship, which was such a blessing to see. Many children gave testimonies. The things they were thankful for broke my heart. One small girl was thankful that she had one pair of shoes. How spoiled I am! I have more shoes than I know, but this child was so thankful for one pair of shoes. Another girl was just thankful to be alive. These children have it right. They are TRULY thankful. Africa is definitely changing me more than I could ever change Africa.
ALSO: here are some random things that we have done in Africa:
* The first full day here we went white water rafting on the Nile River. It was the most awesome experience! Angie surprised us and it was an amazing day. Don’t worry parents – we are all safe and none of us were injured! We were in GOOOOOD HANDS! <3
* Yesterday we climbed Mt. Tororo. It was more challenging than I thought it would be, but the view from the top was spectacular. MOM AND DAD – it looked exactly how it looked on Google Earth. 🙂
*Malisa turned 21 on the 14th and we had quite a birthday bash. One of the members of the church made a cake and we had a dance party. We eventually moved the dance party outside and many of the local girls came and danced with us. They taught us a few games, which we weren’t too good at. 🙂 It was an amazing night and it is safe to say that Malisa had a fun birthday in Africa.
Overall, Africa has already been amazing. We have learned so much and God is truly challenging us spiritually. Please pray that we continue to put Him first in every situation and are able to do as He says!
We love you all and hope to hear from you on the blogs! The internet is VERY sketchy here, so please be patient with us. 🙂 WE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU! <3
p.s. MOM – tell Logan and Sarah I have seen a ton of monkeys. 🙂
