white as snow

It finally happened. I had my first real snow experience. Little white flakes falling from the sky. I looked out the Amsterdam terminal window in amazement.   It was absolutely beautiful. I sat in silence, not quite sure what to say, and the words "I have washed away your sins and you are as white and as clean as snow" echoed over and over in my head. I knew the words were from The Lord, because sadly I would never think these things about myself.   The past few days at training camp had been long, beautiful, painful, freeing steps. I am finally starting to let go...

How much can I carry?

After struggling to lift my 50 pound pack on my back and 20 pound pack on my front I realized just how heavy this load I'm carrying would be. Alone the weight of a sleeping bag or few clothes or some toiletries don't add up to much, but combined when forced together into a 65 liter pack it can become a bit overwhelming.             In the same way things we grasp little by little, though they may seem insignificant, add up to become unbearable and weigh us down more than we realize.      ...

A Family of Worshippers

The forming of a team seems pretty simplistic; you send in application, you get accepted, and you are placed into a team of people who did the same. But it’s so much more than that. These girls arrived at training camp and met a group of 10 complete strangers. Strangers that expect more honesty, openness, and transparency with each other than they have been with anyone else. Strangers that they now have to spend the next four months doing life and ministry with. Strangers that become family. We all come ready. Ready to serve, to grow, and  to change.    I am...

Love that Changes Everything

Malawi is amazing! The things God is doing here is so good. There is so much in store for Senga Bay. It is so apparent that God hand picked each and every individual to bring exactly what this land needs. One of the main things is love.     It is difficult to minister to the people like you would regularly. Maybe tell them a bible story, tell them who Jesus is and how he came down and died for us, that we are here to tell them the good news and help bring them to Jesus. But because of the language barrier you can't just go down to sit and talk. The...

Days Like These

Most days I wake up at around 5am. Most days I wake up sweating from a night in the 100 something degree weather. Most days we carry at least 20 liters of water for about half a mile. Most days we pack into the back of a pickup truck so full the back almost hits the road. Most days we “eat” lumps and lumps of ensima.   These are the days I wouldn’t trade for anything.   The days we walk to the well and I’m greeted by some kids yelling my “name”, “Harry! Harry!” The days we go to women’s ministry with a group of ladies who speak...
